As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the C loud Hardware Engineering Services and Solutions team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Technical Lead

  • Lead and manage a team to engineers and oversee the execution of product design of multiple or complex High-Performance c omput ing , I nformation Technology , networking , storage, information security and related projects dedicated to Silicon and System development and validation . Coordinates across internal and external groups for future resource and project plans.

  • Champions and align cross-functional team efforts in support of project goals across the product lifecycle. Manages development of project methodology by defining the tools, flows, and methods to be used. Enables team to develop and use expertise with complex features/flows/protocols to identify critical paths and address them in product plans across all milestones for current project.

  • Scrutinizes plans and schedules for accuracy and recommends decisions on implementation schedules for project deliverables across products. Identifies potential resource issues, risks, mitigations, and proposes cross-organizational compromises. Monitors project progress/status across one or more project teams, anticipates potential challenges, and shares project progress details with key stakeholders as necessary.

  • Acts as an expert resource in specific technical areas and forward-looking technologies to multiple teams within and outside of their department on functional matters related to industry trends, competitor products, and advances in various engineering fields. Shares expert knowledge of deep technical areas across multiple domains within their team and across teams working on similar products. Communicates a strategic vision of technology and industry trends.

  • Influences the development and negotiation of custom contracts.

  • Develops overall execution plan to deliver the architecture, resources needed, establishes schedule, and determines associated risks. Compares and contrasts competing architecture or way-of-work standards to drive an aligned singular solution.

  • Coordinates distributions of trade-off analysis tasks and coding of performance analysis to improve turnaround time. Makes recommendations to architects and management for larger changes needed to methodology.

  • Oversee external server operations staff

  • Define processes and policy around server operations staff.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years people and project management experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role within the High Performance Computing domain.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of High-Performance Computing (HPC) Infrastructure and services.

  • Extensive experience with HPC services management and enterprise application integration.

  • 15 years of hands-on experience supporting infrastructure and software solutions.

  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership role within the HPC domain.

  • Experience with one or more programming or query languages (Powershell, C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, Kusto, SQL).

  • Certification in one or more of the following technologies: Microsoft Azure Solution Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Certified Solutions Architecture Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Associate.

Hardware Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
