Service Source Security Specialist in Suitland, Maryland

Pay rate : $ 28.75 +$ 4.57 (H&W) per hour

Job Summary

Provides technical and administrative security support to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Office of Security in Suitland, MD, and the National Processing Center in Jeffersonville, IN. This includes managing access control, badge production, fingerprinting, key issuance, visit requests, and security records.

Primary Duties

  • Obtain photographs, schedule fingerprint appointments, verify security databases, escort appointees to fingerprint office to accurately produce identification badges.

  • Utilize the Census Hiring and Employment Check (CHEC) system with verifying Personal Identifiable Information (PII) or Visitor Management System (VMS) and provide data entry to greet visitors, assign visitor badges, and ensure visitors are appropriately credentialed.

  • Assist customers by providing timely and accurate information in a professional and informative manner concerning the security of customer personnel, property, facilities, information, and assets.

  • Provide entries into existing computer databases such as USAccess and LENEL access control data base and information verification of biographical and security data and track the accountability of badges, and other security requirements.

  • Provide general clerical support for Security Services Center front office including answering multi-line phone system , taking necessary actions to gathering data, transfer calls to appropriate personnel, take clear and concise messages, and type documents as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Copies, packages and completes memos, correspondence and information, following established processes in support of OSY leadership.

  • Ensure badging equipment is functioning properly, communicate with management regarding any issues with the equipment.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a filing system including computerized records and databases as required.

  • Assist with invoice processing, recordkeeping, and submit contractor time sheets correctly and promptly.

  • Maintain clean safe work areas throughout the workday.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience and Certification(s)

  • High School Diploma or state-certified equivalent required.

  • Proven experience in personnel security or customer service required.

  • Clerical experience in an office setting needed.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust government security clearance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work well with people internally and externally at all levels of the organization.

  • Customer service oriented and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos, labels and numbers

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situation to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Excellent customer service skills, verbal and written skills and ability to accept and follow directions.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of Federal and industry standards and best practices.

  • Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

  • Detail-oriented and able to carry out work with the highest levels of accuracy.

  • Ability to operate security services equipment (computer, databases, photography, printers, laminator, phones, digital fingerprinting) and perform repetitive tasks

Supervision Received

Supervision: The incumbent performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
