GovCIO Intermediate VDI Engineer in Stuttgart, Germany

Overview

Join a team supporting the Global Enterprise Network Modernization-OCONUS (GENM-O) Infrastructure Modernization Capabilities Set contract and support Combatant Command. Work with a team to upgrade projects and their support elements within the 2nd Signal Command span of control, including but not limited to the United States (U.S.) European Command (EUCOM) and African Command (AFRICOM); United States Army Africa (USARAF); and United States Army Europe (USAREUR) Areas of Responsibility (AoR). Current operational capabilities are in need of modernization and expansion. These efforts include, but are not limited to Telecommunication Room (TR) modernization, Inside Plant (ISP), Outside Plant (OSP), Audio Visual (AV) Video Teleconferencing (VTC), Voice-Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), Commercial Solution for Classified (CSFC), Multiple Independent Level of Security (MILS), Video Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router/ Secure Internet Protocol Router, Installation Campus Area Network (NIPR/SIPR, ICAN) and Wireless. The end-state objective is to provide a Unified Capabilities Requirements (UCR)-compliant converged (A/V and data) capability down to the EUCOM, AFRICOM, UFARAF, USAREUR and coalition Command and Control (C2) end users.

Responsibilities

To support this effort, the Intermediate VDI Engineer will acquire and install all equipment, materials, tools, supplies, and incidental services necessary to perform all aspects of the infrastructure modernization upgrade for the European AoR. They will also employ best commercial practices to address all requirements and upgrade the existing C4ISR facility infrastructure with current and supportable technology that will meet or exceed mission requirements in support of normal and crisis operations. The end-state objective is to provide fully compliant IT modernization solutions designed and configured for both the NIPR and SIPR for the Europe AoR.

  • Architect, plan, and implement the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure design of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure.

  • Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures are designed to adhere to organizational values, mission requirements and enabling mission success.

  • Perform duties such as site surveys, architecture design, system evaluation, system analysis, and infrastructure assessment.

  • Perform duties on tasks that require expertise in system/processor architecture, wired for management baseline, desktop management interface, SNMP, client/server architecture, operating systems, software applications, network protocols, routers, witches, remote access, servers, and firewalls.

  • Provide technical leadership in the development, integration, and testing of the Command's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, supporting multiple geographic locations, network enclaves, and virtual desktop pools. Infrastructure consists of Citrix Provisioning Services, VMWare vCenter, and Dell Wyse Endpoints

  • Provide Tier-III assistance to maintain, analyze, troubleshoot, repair and optimize services to include hardware, software, and network components necessary to deliver the latest secured desktop environment

  • Ensure continued service on devices configured in accordance with DoD security policies.

  • Design, upgrade, test, and modify the VDI environment based on capacity and utilization requirements

  • Troubleshoot and correct detected or reported system and network faults or outages

  • Ensure that trouble ticket items are investigated and resolved and that necessary equipment repairs are performed and documented

  • Work with vendors, clients, carriers and technical staff and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Communicate clearly and succinctly both written and orally, have strong leadership skills, and present products and ideas in a business-like manner.

  • Work in a dynamic fast paced environment that require team interaction and coordination of efforts.

  • Perform administrative and engineering functions found in the service design domain and provide escalated support for problem management.

  • Support new project efforts to test, transition, implement, document, and train when transitioned to IT Operations Management.

  • Participate as an infrastructure engineering representative on engineering teams for the design, development, implementation and/or integration of desktop virtualization environments

  • Design, install, configure and manage VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, Workspace ONE, ThinApp, App Volumes)

  • Ensure virtualization systems are compliant with required security standards

  • Develop and maintain O&S Standard Operating Procedures for VMware desktop virtualization environment

  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with the virtualization environment; ideally including Microsoft and/or Linux O/S knowledge

  • Develop server/system migration strategies and processes for virtualized and non-virtualized desktop environments

  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity

  • Provide guidance on optimization of desktops for platform interoperability and act as liaison between central technologies and endpoint support teams on issues and tasks

  • Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignment

  • Conduct trade studies and makes recommendations on solutions and “make buy” decisions

Qualifications

Bachelor's with 5 - 8 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • BA/BS, 5+ years of experience or AA w/7+ years of experience

  • Clearance Required: Secret

  • Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization and/or Networking

  • VMWare VCP

  • CompTIA Security + (IAT Level II or greater)

  • Experienced interfacing with both client managers and system users

  • TESA eligibility

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Excellent presentation and conversational skills

  • Adaptable to changing circumstances and operational needs

  • Strong virtual desktop administration (Horizon View) is a must, and the candidate should also have excellent troubleshooting (Active Directory, DNS, DFS) skills. A current VMware certification around VDI or other is a plus

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

USD $100,000.00 - USD $112,000.00 /Yr.
