Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Biological Chemistry, Plant Biology, or Plant Virology or a closely related field. Experience in agrobacterium research. Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques. Proven record of publication in internationally recognized scientific journals. Experience in presenting data at scientific meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Plant Biology on molecular and cellular level.
- Knowledge of plant proteasomal degradation systems.
- Knowledge of techniques to genetically cross Arabidopsis plants.
- Experience with plant viruses.
- Experience in confocal microscopy.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator, Vitaly Citovsky, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology. The incumbent will participate in a collaborative research project on the plant viruses Arabidopsis and N. benthamiana using molecular biology techniques. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
Duties:
- Perform guided research on agrobacterium using BiFC, confocal microscope, comet assay and tumor assay.
- Perform guided research on plant viruses using molecular biology techniques.
- Generation of Arabidopsis and N. benthamiana transgenic plants.
- Summarize data for publication in scientific journals.
- Present research at meetings, both internal and external at scientific conferences and meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
