Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Oncology Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in Stony Brook, New York
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, anOncology Pharmacy Clinical Specialistis a valuable member of our team, whowill provide clinical and dispensing services for oncology patients.Service area will be primarily the BMT (blood and marrow transplant) and LLT services.The position provides input on medication regimens and protocols for the BMT patient population, instructional support for the staff, patient education, and research protocols.This position will be responsible for identifying opportunities for cost avoidance as related to medication regimens.
Duties of anOncology Pharmacy Clinical Specialistmay include but are not limited to the following:
- Attends assigned clinical rounds, represents Pharmacy at assigned committees.
- Reviews and verifies medication orders for patients on the BMT service - Reviews orders for appropriateness, suggests less expensive and/or more efficacious alternatives, coordinates dispensing/administration with Pharmacy when necessary.
- Provides educational programs for LIP, nurse, pharmacist staff, with a focus on medication use in the BMT and hematologic malignancy program (LLT service) population - Provides oversight for Pharmacy Residents and Interns assigned to oncology rotations.
- Works with LLT service to develop research protocols and publish results of studies.
- Identifies and implements cost savings programs and opportunities.
- Maintains compliance with all rules and regulations governing the practice of Pharmacy - maintains regulatory compliance.
Required:
- BS in Pharmacy or a PharmD degree.
- New York State Pharmacy License.
- Current NY State Pharmacist Registration.
- One or more years of hospital pharmacy experience.
- One or more years ofclinical experience.
- Knowledge of preparation and admixture of cytotoxic agentsexperience.
- Prior experience in program development, implementation of medication safety, and quality programs and initiatives.
Preferred:
- Completion of a Pharmacy Residency with a focus on oncology, and Board Certification in Oncology.

- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
- This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 5 panel drug screen*
- Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
