Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Instructional Support Assistant Molecular Genetics CLT Eligible (per-diem) in Stony Brook, New York
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, aTH Instructional Support Assistant is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. Incumbent must be thoroughly familiar with, understand and be able to follow all prescribed policies, protocols, procedures and methodologies as utilized in the section to which he/she is assigned.This is a per-diem position.
Duties of a Per-Diem TH Instructional Support Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:
- Perform SARS-CoVID-19 testing using both manual and automated methods.
- Perform high complexity Molecular Diagnostic testing using both manual and automated methods (COVID-19 testing only)
- Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique (COVID-19 testing only)
- Line responsibility for the performance of clinical analysis in the Department of Laboratories. (COVID-19 testing only)
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned according to established protocols to ensure proper instrument performance. (COVID-19 testing only)
- Preanalytical duties
- Organize specimens for testing and storage after the test is completed.
- General lab maintenance (i.e. inventory, stocking shelves, recording temperatures).
- Transporting specimens and assembling kits.
- Adhere to all quality control policies and procedures.
- Proficient in computer protocols as assigned.
- Adhere to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols
- Interact professionally with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers, patients, and other members of the hospital community
- Will maintain safe laboratory practices under the direction of Associate Technical Director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory and the Laboratory Director.
- Answer phone, assist as needed
- Perform other clerical duties as assigned
- Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.
- All Hospital positions maybe subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.
- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
- This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 5 panel drug screen*
- Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
