Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Emergency Management Staff in Stony Brook, New York

Position Summary

The Emergency Management department manages a comprehensive program for the hospital which provides education, training, regulatory compliance, and incident/disaster response to protect the health and safety of staff, patients, and visitors.

Assists in the coordination and implementation of emergency management standards to facilitate a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Assists in coordinating education and exercises within the healthcare environment to ensure an organized response during a disaster. Responsibilities include the integration of emergency management regulatory compliance and participation in incident response.

Duties of an Emergency Management Staff may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of emergency plans and procedures for disasters identified in the hospital HVA/ risk analysis.
  • Collaborate with the emergency management team in the creation, development, education, training, and implementation of disaster plans that are in alignment with state and other regulatory agencies.
  • Support education and training needs assessments and work collaboratively with staff development representatives to create, implement, and review safety/ regulatory education and training requirements/ programs related to Emerging Infectious Diseases, Hazardous Material Decontamination, weather related emergencies, and mass casualty incidents
  • Assist in tracking and testing of all disaster-related equipment. Collect, review, track, and input data required by local, state, and federal entities which are consistent with the facility's policies and procedures.
  • * Collaborate with emergency management partners/ stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Support and participate in a schedule of training and exercises to practice/ test the emergency plans within the hospital, and also with partners in community or statewide exercises
  • Document the results of exercises in after action reports to improve the facility's emergency operations plan and response activities.
  • Perform assigned incident command role during drills, exercises, and real word emergencies. Assist in the completion of grant deliverables for hospital preparedness.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • 3-5 years of current experience in healthcare-related field to include emergency preparedness, safety and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Educational background and certifications related to healthcare emergency management.
  • Familiarity with healthcare emergency preparedness, including security, safety, HAZMAT, OSHA, NIMS, HICS, HVA, CMS, and hospital accreditation body (e.g.,TJC, DNV-GL) related criteria.
  • Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800.

Preferred:

  • Degree in Emergency Management or a related field.
  • Hazmat for Healthcare Certified.
  • Experience in conducting drills and exercises.
  • Clinical experience as pre-hospital or hospital clinician.

  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $91800 - $108120.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,400 for location,
