Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description
The company specializes in designing, fabricating, and testing lightweight structures. The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating various CNC machines using Fanuc and Siemens controllers, including both 3-axis and 5-axis. The role involves high quality, low volume machining of metal, composite, and graphite parts in an aerospace production environment. The machinist will select and mount tooling, determine feed and operating speeds, perform cut off, trimming, counter sinking, drilling, and check parts for dimensional accuracy. Strong knowledge of blueprints, shop math, and the ability to transfer files from a computer to a numeric controller are essential.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate production machine tools
Select and mount appropriate tooling for machining operations
Determine the appropriate feed and operating speeds for efficient machining
Perform cut off, trimming, counter sinking, drilling, and other machining operations
Verify the dimensional accuracy of machined parts using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand machining requirements
Utilize shop math skills to perform calculations and ensure accurate machining processes
Transfer computer files to the numeric controller to initiate machining operations
Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity
Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure proper functioning
Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and timelines
Identify and communicate any issues or concerns regarding machine performance or product quality
Maintain accurate documentation of machining operations, including production logs and inspection records
Stay updated with the latest machining techniques, technologies, and industry trends
Work independently to prioritize and complete assigned tasks efficiently
Inspect finished parts for defects, imperfections, or deviations from quality standards
Report any issues or deviations to the supervisor or appropriate personnel
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored after use
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines
Essential Skills
Minimum of 5 years of machining experience with both setting up and running CNC machines
Ability to read and interpret work instructions and technical diagrams
Experience operating CNC machines using Fanuc and Siemens controllers (3-axis and 5-axis)
Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Horizontal CNC experience, preferably on a Breton or any machine that uses a Fanuc controller
Willingness to join and comply with union rules and regulations
Machining Certificate
Completion of an 8,000-hour apprenticeship program for the Machinist trade or equivalent training with 4 or more years of experience

Work Environment
The work environment includes operating in an aerospace production setting with a focus on high-quality, low-volume machining. The shift hours are Monday to Friday, 3:30 pm to 12 am, with occasional overtime as needed. The work area must be kept clean and organized, and adherence to all safety protocols is mandatory.
