Project Accountant

Job Description

The Project Accountant oversees all aspects of the construction job costing process, including categorizing, recording, analyzing, and monitoring costs and billings for both large and smaller, less complex projects. This role ensures vendor compliance to manage project risk effectively. Assigned to a major construction project, the Project Accountant collaborates closely with the Project Manager to ensure accurate and timely accounting and risk management throughout the project’s life cycle.

  • Compile, prepare, and analyze monthly project billings in accordance with contract requirements.

  • Conduct financial analysis and reconcile project costs against the project budget.

  • Oversee vendor compliance, including insurance, lien waivers, retention, and W-9 forms.

  • Generate and evaluate job performance and profitability through job cost tracking reports.

  • Assist in preparing status reports and maintain accurate project statuses and budget information in COINs.

  • Identify and resolve both basic and complex project-related accounting issues promptly.

Skills

  • 3-5 Years' experience in construction accounting (AP, AR, Project Accounting)

  • Excel - Vlookup/pivot tables

  • Knowledge of either/both of the following: GMP contracts (Guaranteed Maximum Price), Cost Plus

  • Familiarity with accounting systems (one or more): Sage, Timberline, Netsuite, COINS

This is a permanent position.

This is a fully on-site position at a s tate-of-the-art facility in Sterling, Virginia.
