Overview:
Contribute to Sterling Steel safely producing high quality products at the lowest cost by inspecting electrical issues; maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic equipment throughout the plant; installing new electrical items when necessary and completing preventative maintenance as scheduled to prevent future failures.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, maintain, assemble, and lubricate electrical equipment to obtain proper operating characteristics
Make either temporary or permanent repairs as required to equipment such as main motor devices, generators, control panels, relays, interlocking cranes. control systems, electronic devices, and circuit breakers
Make mechanical and electrical repairs on cranes
Receive instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work required for any task to be performed
Inspect electrical/electronic equipment and power lines, checking motor bearings lubrication, commutation, excessive vibration, obvious signs of wear or need for adjustment, etc.
Diagnose trouble using testing equipment or own judgment based on general knowledge of electrical principles when faulty operation is observed or pointed out
Determine the best way to make repairs to minimize interruption of production
Advise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect
Calibrate electrical measuring equipment
Assist with plan projects as well as assisting with project start ups
Interpret and analyze drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and trace electrical circuits, and evaluate programming to determine material and replacement needs, and selects a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repair problems
Markup drawing changes and deliver copy to Supervisor
Make mechanical repairs as required while servicing of electrical equipment
Make accurate reports and records for the CMMS system for equipment history
Fill out and maintain work orders and purchase orders for required materials, supplies, and equipment; maintains daily activity logs
Perform housekeeping in areas of repair work and in shops
Report to work as scheduled
Follow all related SJPs
Adhere to all Policies and Work Rules
Comply with all SSC Safety rules; including Lock Out/Tag compliance
Complete all other duties as assigned
Experience/Education/Skill/Knowledge:
5+ years maintenance electrician related experience; preferably in similar heavy manufacturing setting or equivalent training and experience
Ability to effectively read, write, understand, and otherwise communicate in English is required for this position
Knowledge of Crane signals
Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
Ability to work effectively alone or with other employees, with or without direct supervision
Desire and ability to continually advance knowledge of electrical controls and troubleshooting
Identify the differences between like sensors and read datasheets for sensor applications
Understands Programable Logic Controllers & Analog Circuits, PLC Scaling calculations; Calibrations of flow; Temp & pressure transmitters; Communication protocols; Cabling & basic networking.
Possess and understanding of Gear ratios; Motor RPM; Encoder technology; Theory of AC & DC variable speed drives; Basic concepts of VFD controls; Efficient use of software for parameter upload, download & troubleshooting; and Communication data files that control VFDs
Physical Demands:
Able to work in extreme temperatures (hot & cold) while wearing required PPE
Willing and Able to learn, retain and apply new information
Mobility to move to any area of assigned location (Rod Mill and/or Melt Shop)
Strength and stamina to remain on feet for majority of 12-hour shifts
Able to use required PPE
Walk up and down stairs safely
Climb ladders and on catwalks, using safety harness
Safely maneuver into positions required for Overhead Crane inspection and repair
Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
Carry up to 25 pounds without assistance
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Average computer skills including dexterity to type on keyboard
Supply own basic tools (list available in HR)
