The Lead Engineer will manage product development activities for multiple products, technical specialty/product function, or process, including the integration of engines and airends, as well as the design of their subsystems, achieving both the short and long-term strategy to meet or exceed quality, functionality, voice of customer, and competitive edge requirements.

Role & Responsibility

  • Integration of next generation engines & airends and their subsystems to support future Bobcat products.

  • Complete research & development activity to align with Bobcat product road maps for portable compressors, generators, and light towers.

  • Drive the product development initiatives for multiple products, product function, or stage in the product design process including preparing and managing the development activity and budget per schedules outlined in the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Long-Range Plan (LRP).

  • Collaborate with other functional areas and participate in Product Management and Operational meetings on the development status of major projects to determine if products are ready for production.

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement in the product development process, engineering systems and database of technical specifications.

  • Ensure team responds to and solves field problems and warranty issues related to engines, airends and their subsystems.

  • Improve product quality, reliability and system cost through warranty and Quality Cost Improvement programs.

  • Responsible for the overall financial impact of the development of products, product function and/or phase.

  • Always maintain a global perspective for new product development so that it meets the criteria to manufacture and distribute worldwide.

  • Provide strategic leadership in the product development life cycle based on knowledge and history of the product and the company's annual goals.

  • Use innovative approaches to solving problems, engaging team, devising courses of action for the development of new techniques or processes, and refashioning existing courses of action where the opportunity for innovation is limited by a large volume of accepted practice.

  • Foster a culture of creativity and support diversity of thought, innovation, and excellence within the department.

  • Sponsor and/or or lead innovation challenges and events.

  • Manage a small team which will include Engineers and Co-op Students.

  • Efficiently organize the major tasks and goals for direct reports and supporting personnel.

  • Actively monitor projects and make appropriate personnel and resource changes to meet the project goals. Inspire, engage, empower employees to create a culture of creativity, innovation, and timely development of world class products.

  • Outline strategy for employee growth, development, and succession planning. Identify key competencies and skills needed to build a diverse team and evaluate and select new employees to achieve assigned goals.

  • Identify and remove roadblocks on projects so employees can effectively execute project plans.

  • Demonstrate how to build relationships across engineering and other departments to enhance collaboration.

Job Requirement

  • Experience leading and developing engineering teams in the development of a single product, product function, and/or product improvement/optimization effort, including engines or airends, and their subsystems.

  • Thorough understanding of modern emissions certified & legacy emissions-certified diesel engine functionality.

  • Significant understanding of fluid system design to support modern/legacy emissions-certified diesel engines and airends.

  • Above average design/analysis competency in Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer.

  • Basic heat exchanger analysis familiarity and understanding of the interrelationship among heat load, cooler performance, and system.

  • Experience with First law of Thermodynamics (system and control volume) and application

  • Experienced with power analysis related to compressor, generator, and/or mobile construction machine applications.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with other functions of the organization. Ability to develop & mentor engineers at various levels in their careers. Creative and visionary approach to projects with ability to influence innovation across multiple organizations and levels through technical aptitude and understanding of team's strengths.

  • Strong capacity for leading change, dealing with ambiguity, and providing creative solutions and influencing multi-discipline teams with data, scientific reasoning, and strong coaching skills.

  • Basic project management methodologies and tools experience.

  • Education Required: Mechanical Bachelors. Masters in Business Administration Preferred.

  • Experience Required: <7 years

  • Travel Required: <10%
