Mitchell Community College Administrative Assistant II - Small Business Center/Business Services in Statesville, North Carolina

Job Summary

The Administrative Assistant for the Small Business Center at Mitchell Community College is responsible for carrying out the Colleges vision and mission as they relate specifically to Small Business Center and Business Services. This role assists in providing comprehensive administrative support to the Small Business Center Director and the Director of Customized Training and Business Services.

Salary will commensurate with experience.*

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service, communication and time management skills.
  • Maintain considerable discretion and strict confidentiality.
  • Coordinates class, seminar, or webinar set-up and manages and maintains electronic and hard copy program records/files.
  • Assist in the preparation of class materials to include: handouts, attendance, registration forms, instructor contracts or service agreements, etc.
  • Perform data entry into the various programs maintained by MCC, as well as the Small Business Center.
  • Maintain the records pertaining to College and Small Business Center requirements.
  • Process budget forms (timesheets, purchase requisitions, travel reimbursement, budget transfers, etc.).
  • Answer incoming calls, address questions, relaying messages, and disseminating program information.
  • Assists in marketing Small Business Center offerings and services through email newsletters, social media, the website, fliers, community outreach events, etc.
  • Advises students and clients regarding available training programs and counseling services.
  • Periodically attend meetings, classes, seminars, and conferences for additional training to improve job skills.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency and at least three years of administrative experience required, with two years of postsecondary education preferred. An associate degree in office systems technology, information systems, or equivalent degree is also preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication (oral/written) skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong PC and hardware/software skills as well as operating system/application knowledge.
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows and Microsoft products.
  • Ability to work in a professional and congenial manner with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with minimum or no supervision

Additional Information

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Scheduling: This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Must be available to work occasionally on weekends and evenings, during peak periods.
