Stanford Ecopreneurship programs operate at the intersection of the SDSS and the Graduate School of Business, leveraging the strengths of both schools to support aspiring sustainability entrepreneurs (or “ecopreneurs”) from idea to launch. We aim to inspire and support ecopreneurs from across the university to explore climate and sustainability challenges facing our planet and utilize entrepreneurship and innovation to create impactful solutions with speed and scale.

The Stanford Ecopreneurship team, in partnership with the Sustainability Accelerator, is seeking an Associate Director (AD) to lead the planning and execution of an array of externally-facing and internal partner programs serving ecopreneurs within Stanford and beyond.

Your primary responsibilities include:

Lead strategic planning and implementation of ecopreneurship partner programs, including:

  • Work closely with partners across the university to design and execute an annual “Scaling Sustainability Innovation” conference, featuring dozens of speakers and hundreds of attendees, including leading academics, ecopreneurs, investors, and corporate partners.

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with universities around the world participating in a summer sustainability innovation program designed to provide budding ecopreneurs with the context knowledge and skills needed to evaluate new sustainability-focused venture ideas.

  • Work closely with partners within the Sustainability Accelerator to create partnerships between ecopreneurial grad students and Stanford faculty to help evaluate commercialization pathways of the faculty’s sustainability-focused innovations.

  • Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends related to ecopreneurship partner programs; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.

  • Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new partner programming to meet the needs of ecopreneurs at Stanford and beyond.

  • Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.

  • Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.

  • Coach and mentor program staff.

  • Center equity and inclusion in your work and interactions with others

  • Manage individual program budgets

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.

  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in an area of specialization.

  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.

  • Ability to manage budgets and develop financial plans.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Experience or familiarity with, and interest in, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial learning, or startups.

  • A broad awareness of the multitude domestic and global environmental sustainability issues and an ability to quickly get up to speed on any specific issue

  • Excellent program/project management skills.Ability to plan, organize, and implement a program with a high volume of diverse activities across multiple programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and a comfort working with a wide variety of personalities

  • Autonomy and inherent motivation to create high-quality work

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent data analysis skills enabling the assessment of program impact, and uncovering opportunities for continuous program improvement.

  • Experience working in higher education

  • The ability to empathize with or relate to sustainability-focused entrepreneurs.

  • Being comfortable navigating ambiguity, and the spirit to “build the airplane while it’s flying”

  • Ability to build structure and processes where there are none

  • Experience and comfort with Google Suite products (e.g. Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs, etc.) which the GSB uses heavily

The expected pay range for this position is $111,866 to $139,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
