Stanford University Assistant Professor of Modern Eastern European History in Stanford, California

Assistant Professor of Modern Eastern European History (tenure-track)

The Department of History at Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in East-Central European history, including the Balkans, from the late 19th century to the present. The candidate will offer undergraduate lecture courses on modern East-Central Europe, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses on the distinct features of the history of the region writ large. Review of files will begin on October 15, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should provide the items listed below. The appointment will begin on September 1, 2025. Ph.D. must be in hand by the appointment start date.

  • Three letters of recommendation. For candidates who do not yet have a Ph.D., the recommendation of their principal advisor must include precise information on the present status of the dissertation and the likelihood of completion by Summer 2025.

The salary range for this position is $108,000 - $127,000, for academic year 2025–26.

The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
