GE Vernova Lead Customer Application Engineer in Stafford, United Kingdom

GE Vernova would like to recruit a Lead Customer Application Engineer to work in our after-sales Service team.

GE Vernova’s Power Transmission Service business is responsible for after sales support of our installed base of power transmission equipment, from erection and commissioning, through spare parts, maintenance and repair, to major overhaul and extension projects.

We are now looking for an experienced Customer Application Engineer to join our team and take responsibility for developing, costing and securing new projects. Typical customers include Distribution and Transmission Network Operators, and both Renewable and Conventional Power Generation Companies.

Experience of the power transmission industry and after sales service would be an advantage, but enthusiasm, drive, and a proven track record of establishing customer relationships and trust are paramount.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare tender offers aligned with scope of work and according to internal business processes.

  • Engage with subject matter experts and key internal stakeholders (Project Management, Field Service, H&S, Quality etc.) to ensure that the full scope of work is considered.

  • Ensure prices are established based on target-winning price, with a view on market conditions (competition, customer budget).

  • Support tender meetings and negotiations, ensure clarifications / answers / presentations are provided to satisfy Customer requests, and coordinate appropriate team to participate in Customer meetings.

  • Applies a level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance.

  • Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve semi-complex tasks.

  • Has access to technical skills and uses analytical thinking to develop solutions.

  • Depending on deal size, lead or assist with internal approvals and customer negotiations required to close the deal.

  • Hand-over and launch the project to OTR (Order to Remittance) team.

  • Ensure the CRM system is utilised and updated in a timely manner.

  • Propose and implement tendering process improvement aiming at continuously improving the quality of the bid (reduce tendering slippage and enhance customer satisfaction).

  • The successful candidate will be expected to develop knowledge of key business drivers, their customers, sales territory, product lines, markets and defined commercial processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical / mechanical engineering or proven experience of equivalent level.

  • Previous experience with Tendering - Will be required to generate cost analysis templates and produce customer proposals independently.

Experience & Characteristics:

  • Good knowledge and experience developing costings.

  • A working knowledge of typical UK forms of contract, NEC, FIDIC etc. would be an advantage.

  • Involved at an early stage in project development, with an ability to logically and systematically analyse problems, develop options and understand and discuss GE’s proposed solutions.

  • Often working to tight deadlines, the successful candidate will be able to engage with and to influence diverse stakeholders across the business to ensure their customer’s timescales are met.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary to develop an understanding of customer’s needs, to clearly communicate GE’s offer, and to communicate customer’s requirements and priorities to GE internal stakeholders.

  • Responsible for securing their allocated target order intake, an ability to develop relationships and influence at all levels within a customer organisation.

  • High degree of IT Literacy (Excel, PowerPoint, Words, MS project, …) with excellent numerical skills.

Working Arrangements

Flexible working arrangements including a mixture of home and office working are available. A typical working week is likely to include 2 or 3 days in our Stafford office.
