Minimum Qualifications:

Six years of experience working in a safety program in a research laboratory facility or similar organization. A bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience can substitute for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 10-Hour, OSHA 30-Hour, ASP, CSP, CIH, HAZWOPER, CSHM, CSMP, CHMM).

Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor Training.

Requirements:

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 2 background check at no cost to the candidate.

Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. Not eligible for Telework.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a self-motivated safety enthusiast with strong team and interpersonal skills to administer the FWRI Safety Program. In this role, the selected candidate will oversee and work to advance FWRI laboratory and field safety practices and advise FWRI staff state-wide on safety related matters to foster a culture of safety.

Primary responsibilities will include preparing, reviewing, and enforcing laboratory and field safety policies; providing chemical and biohazard safety oversight; leading the FWRI safety team; maintaining the FWRI Safety SharePoint Site; coordinating and serving as a course instructor for safety trainings as well as First Aid/CPR classes; ensuring staff are in compliance with safety training requirements; assisting with annual vessel safety inspections; monitoring Worker’s Comp incidents; conducting hazard assessments and incident investigations; and assisting with emergency response preparation, participation, and oversight.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of general principles of laboratory safety.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Skill in written and verbal communication.

Skilled in the use of Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, and Outlook.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.

Ability to conduct safety investigations and inspections to identify problems and recommend corrective action.

Ability to administer a safety program.

Ability to conduct oral presentations.

Ability to collect and analyze data relating to a safety program.

Ability to prepare reports relating to safety inspections or investigations.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to a safety program.

Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.

Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Ability to travel overnight to FWRI facilities statewide.
