This position supports two units in General Accounting (1) Banking Services and (2) Vendor Payments.

The Banking Services team reconciles over 600 state bank statements and maintains documents in accordance with record retention requirements. This position is responsible to assist in reconciling bank statements and working with banks to obtain the necessary reconciling support, filing bank statements, uploading files for electronic imaging and sorting mail.

The Vendor Payments Unit works with the reconciliation and balancing of the State warrants that are issued by Minnesota Management and Budget. The person will also be responsible for researching warrant issues, sending wire transactions on behalf of all State of Minnesota agencies, and responding and recommending solutions to issues encountered by suppliers who receive payments from the State of Minnesota.

This position will be expected to work in the office three days a week with the flexibility for the other two days to telecommute, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to complete a telework agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accounting skills sufficient to reconcile differences.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Detail orientated and able to verify and validate data entry.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state agencies and co-workers.

  • Proficient computer skills in maintaining spreadsheets and databases in Microsoft Excel and Access plus experience using these tools to develop reports and extract data from an information warehouse or mainframe system.

  • Proven analytical, organizational, and research skills to solve problems and initiate corrective actions.

  • Ability to navigate multiple software applications and databases including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience/understanding of the state’s Accounting/Procurement system (SWIFT).

  • Banking Experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Accounting related field. OR

  • An Associate Degree in Accounting or a related field AND at least one (1) year of para-professional/technical level experience using a large, complex automated accounting/payroll system, such as the State of Minnesota’s Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) system. OR

  • At least two (2) years of para-professional/technical level experience using a large, complex automated accounting/payroll system, such as the State of Minnesota’s Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) system.
