The Tribal and Transformation Intern will serve in the office of Aging and Disability Services Administration working closely with the Transitions, Tribal and Transformations Division. The Tribal and Transformation Intern will support tribal relations and culturally centered practices through collaboration with internal and external partners. This internship will assist in developing data collection and analysis procedures for the Money Follows the Person (MFP) program and Money Follows the Person Tribal Initiative (MFP TI), also known as Moving Home Minnesota. This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives that support tribal communities and culturally centered practices. You’ll gain experience in tribal relations, data analysis, and strategic planning, while working in a collaborative and supportive environment. The intern will report to the Transformation and Tribal Collective Supervisor and work independently with guidance from Tribal Relations Specialists, Data Specialists, and the Research and Evaluation Team.
Some responsibilities include but not limited to:
Assist in coordinating tribal relations and culturally centered practices
Support the development and maintenance of data collection and analysis procedures for internal programs
Contribute to project and presentation development, including the tribal resource directory and legislative analysis
Maintain accurate data and provide insights to inform the TT&T division’s strategic direction and forecasting
Collaborate with Tribal Relations Specialists, Data and Quality Improvement Specialists, and other teams to meet project goals
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; or recently graduated December 2024 or May 2025
AND
Excellent human relation and communication skills sufficient to represent the position and Division in a professional, efficient, and clear manner
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred majors include: Human Services, Social work, Indian Studies, Sociology or Health Administration.
Knowledge of Tribal Nations, tribal governance, sovereignty, and service delivery systems for American Indians in rural, urban, and reservation communities
Understanding of state and local service delivery systems for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and mental health/chemical health services.
Proficiency in data analysis tools, databases, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for creating reports and presentations.
Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and validity.
Ability to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization
Additional Requirements
Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior (Graduate students allowed)
Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment
Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship
Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
