Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. Sr. Manager of Engineering/Maintenance in St. Paul, Minnesota

Sr. Manager of Engineering/Maintenance is responsible for overseeing maintenance and engineering department, including automation, process and projects, environmental and utility reporting, and physical structure of the site. The M&E Manager facilitates all maintenance activities to ensure uninterrupted operations and motivates and develops support leaders and maintenance mechanics. The manager will also ensure the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems, while maximizing production quantity and quality and supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the organization. Oversee all engineering functions within the manufacturing environment including process and automation improvements. Responsible for capital project design and execution. Initiate, implement and manage the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance. Analyze processes and systems, recommend improvements, and implement changes to improve efficiency and performance. Troubleshoot problem areas, recommend solution options, and implement changes to improve performance. Manage, support, and mentor team of Engineers (automation, project, process, etc.) to effectively drive and document change. Manage, support, and mentor team of building/facilities/utilities mechanics responsible for boilers, ammonia, chillers, compressed air, steam, softeners, electrical, etc. Provide technical guidance and direction for plant-based automation personnel. Design major components of projects requiring a thorough knowledge of control design and related fields. Prepare technical specifications, project work descriptions, bid documents, and reports. Monitor the use and inventory of spare and critical parts, maintenance supplies and equipment. Maintain and repair maintenance shop equipment. Establish and maintain a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment. Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related issues. Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department. Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime; resolve problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement. Identify and prioritize opportunities and implement solutions to improve the energy efficiency of our buildings, equipment, and operations. Initiate and carry out projects to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs. Maintain safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures. Drive training and coaching to ensure compliance with Safety standards and incident prevention. Coordinate activities with Plant Operations Departments. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Supervisory Responsibilities Responsible for employee relations including work direction of employees, hiring, training, performance reviews, administering policies and procedures, disciplinary action, and compensation recommendations. Direct implementation of departmental objectives, goals and policies. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and guidelines. Communicate effectively with employees, production, quality, management and other team members. Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices. Safety Protocol Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures. Correct or report any observed safety hazards. Support safety policies and programs. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline strongly preferred. 7 years of experience within an engineering role Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required. 5 years of supervisory experience preferred. Union (for union facilities), Safety, and Workers Compensation experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Auto CAD. Experience managing capital projects. Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures. Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, background, and criminal checks). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices. Ability to follow all Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies. Ability to follow Continuous Improvement (CI) Processes in the Management Operating Structure (MOS). Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change. Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous priorities and prioritize a heavy workload in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail. Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines. Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain a team of employees.
