Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to be responsible for performing general maintenance at the plants for the U of M. If this sounds like a great fit for you, you may be the right candidate for our Mechanic/Equipment Operator. Minimum requirements to be successful in this role: High school graduate or equivalent. Two years of experience in plant maintenance or equivalent combination of experience and Vocational-Technical training. Preferred requirements: Experience with heavy equipment operation such as front-end loaders and dozers. Gas turbine maintenance experience. Skills: Must demonstrate ability to coordinate operations and maintenance activities and set and achieve goals with a high degree of self-initiation and independence. Ability to work well with others, to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and to direct and/or train others. Must have familiarity with boiler and chiller equipment and their auxiliaries and with all types of maintenance work. Must have computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and plant controls applications. Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics/blueprints. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs general maintenance in plants such as boiler cleaning, boiler repair, pump repair and miscellaneous equipment repair, to ensure safe and efficient operation. Performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment. Maintains and repairs coal unloading equipment (conveyors, feeders, compressor and vacuum system) to ensure safe and efficient operation. Operates heavy equipment to supply fuel to the plants and for the safe and effective operation of the plants. Equipment may include: dozer, front-end loader, and skid steer. Performs required inspection of equipment and vehicles prior to use to ensure safe and efficient operation. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment and vehicles to ensure safe and continuous operations. Secondary Job Functions 1. Plows snow on company property and railroad tracks to maintain a safe working environment. 2. Performs cleaning and minor building maintenance to enhance a safe work environment. Some welding, cutting, and soldering may be required. 3. Performs other related functions as assigned. The employee is frequently required to climb ladders/ropes/scaffolding; far visual acuity of clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; fine manipulation of picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in gross manipulation; gross manipulation by seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hands; keyboarding; lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.; near vision acuity with clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less; peripheral vision by observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point; pushing; pulling; reaching at/below shoulder level; reaching overhead by extending arms and hands in a 150 to 180 degrees vertical arc; and standing/walking. The employee is occasionally required to the use of a respirator; crawling; couching; foot/leg controls; kneeling; sitting; stooping; and confined space with limited entry or exit. Must be capable of maneuvering throughout industrial facilities such as energy plants and building HVAC mechanical rooms, etc This is a union position with an hour pay at $37.66/hr.
