Responsibilities

• Grow and analyze bacterial cultures.

• Perform molecular biology tasks such as PCR, plasmid and genomic DNA extraction, RNA extraction, restriction digestion, and agarose gel electrophoresis.

• Support a team in setting up insect bioassays, which involves direct handling of arthropod pests of agriculture.

• Maintain flexibility and agility to support various tasks as needed in the lab.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience in an industry setting in molecular biology, specifically with DNA/RNA extractions and PCR.

• Bachelor's Degree required unless possessing significant experience (more than 2 years).

• Basic sterile technique.

• Hands-on experience with general molecular biology techniques and sterile techniques related to bacterial culture maintenance.

• Proficiency in standard computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior exposure to fungus or fungi is helpful but not required.

• Ability to follow established protocols and assist in developing new protocols.

• Experience working in a laboratory environment with safe work practices, including handling bacteria and hazardous chemicals.

• Ability to lift and move items up to 30 pounds.

• Strong motivation for continuous learning.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, to accommodate time-sensitive experiments.
