About the Job
The role serves as the leader of the quality function for MLC, sets the vision, goals, and objectives for quality management and aligns them with the organizational strategy and culture. The position is responsible for overall execution of MLC’s quality standards and initiatives to all stakeholders, including senior management, employees, customers, suppliers, and regulators and is accountable for the performance and results of the quality function and reports on key quality indicators and metrics to display results and improvement opportunities. The Director of Quality is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the quality systems and processes that ensure the delivery of high-quality products to MLC’s customers. The position oversees managing the quality team and resources , which consists of the quality control manager, quality systems manager, chemists, and internal laboratory testing team. The role is responsible for collaborating with Operations and Commercial functions to ensure quality expectations are met and identifying, analyzing, and resolving the quality issues and risks that may affect the organization's reputation, operations, and profitability. In addition, the position maintains and enhances the quality customer relations by ensuring the organization meets or exceeds the customer requirements and expectations for quality.
Drive improvement in MLC’s quality performance, culture, and process control. Lead and manage the Quality Assurance and Control teams to detect and prevent defects, errors, and nonconformities in MLC products.
Develop and implement quality policies, procedures, and objectives to ensure goals are achieved. Develop and implement industry-specific quality standards to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements
Utilize statistical analysis to identify opportunities for improvement in processes. Analyze and report on quality metrics, trends, and performance.
Achieve/maintain all applicable regulations and certifications, including FSA, USDA, kosher, halal, GFSI, ISO 9001 and others as necessary.
Establish and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to standards. Monitor supplier performance and evaluate supplier auditing for process materials.
Develop and implement quality training strategy; Drive continuous improvement and innovation of the quality systems and processes, using various tools and methods such as Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, and Kaizen.
Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork among the quality staff and other departments and function within the organization by mapping out achievable common goals that improve efficiency, customer satisfaction and profitability.
Oversee the quality problem-solving and corrective action activities that address and eliminate the root causes of quality issues and risks. In addition, it is the director’s role to escalate and report critical quality issues and risks to senior management and other stakeholders with recommendations for resolution.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or closely related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Experience: At least ten years of managing quality teams globally within chemical manufacturing industry. Experience working in chemical operations or food ingredient manufacturing, experience with ISO 9001, and with HAACP management systems are preferred.
Skills: Strong at leading teams and people management skills. Proven track record of successful process improvement initiatives certifications preferred, Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills necessary. Need good interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge: Requires strong working knowledge quality management systems and processes, including functional statistical knowledge.
Abilities: Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills; excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects and tasks; the capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines; the capability to influence and persuade others and build rapport and trust. Proven experience at process control and improvement.
Business travel as needed, such as visits to MLC plant sites and customer sites to understand customer concerns, develop the culture, educate on quality systems and processes, understand quality issues and risks, and maintain quality customer relations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software required.
