Atlas Construction Materials Field Technician in St. Louis, Missouri

Atlas is seeking an entry-level CMT Materials Testing Technician to join our team in St. Louis, MO . This individual will primarily be providing field testing and inspections of concrete, masonry, soils, aggregates, and asphalt for private and public projects including, but not limited to, buildings, roads, bridges and related infrastructure. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs construction-related field tests as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Supervisory Staff.

  • Daily commutable travels to various construction sites primarily throughout Missouri, with the occasional overnight and/or weekend work when required. Out-of-state travel is typically voluntary.

  • Relays information to project manager and/or engineer, with limited in-field decision making.

  • Transports equipment, test specimens and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provides physical assistance in equipment set-up.

  • Enters daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.

  • Performs field quality control tests of concrete and masonry construction.

  • Performs field density testing on soil, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.

  • Assists other technicians or professional staff on tasks and supports other departments as necessary.

  • Follows Atlas’ safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specs

  • Ability to follow Atlas' QC plan and SOP's

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 50 lbs., stoop, bend, and stand throughout the course of a workday in varying weather conditions in varying terrain.

  • Motivated, career-oriented individual striving to learn and achieve within the construction industry.

  • Must be willing to travel near the reporting office and surrounding areas as required by assignments.

  • Works well independently.

  • Experience with/within a construction related field is a plus.

  • Should be safety conscious, a team player, energetic, self-motivated, eager to learn, possess good written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

Technical Requirements:

  • Ability to work toward and achieve industry required certifications. e.g., APNGA Nuclear Certification, American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1, OSHA 10-hour Construction, etc.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to learn and operate specialty equipment.

Other Miscellaneous Qualities:

  • Materials Laboratory, Geotechnical Drilling, or Soils related experience would be a plus.
