SVM - Assistant Professor, Small Animal Clinic
St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time faculty position as an Assistant Professor, in the Small Animal Clinic in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 8/1/2025.

Essential Functions
Instructional Activities:
Deliver lectures and clinical laboratories/rotations in following courses/disciplines:
Introduction to Clinic Rotations (SAMS 528)
Introduction to Clinic Practice (SAMS 526)
Clinical Communication Skills Labs in the Professional Veterinary Development LAMS 533 course
Clinical Skills, Professionalism Skills in all SVM courses (VM510, VM520, VM530, VM540, VM550, VM560
Participate in clinical and academic teaching services offered by the SAC including oversight and supervision of students on companion animal medicine rotations/labs, surgery rotations/labs, Emergency and critical rotations/labs, management of hospitalized cases, outpatient procedures, physical exam labs, perform routine and emergency surgeries and procedures, and daily cage side rounds, student clubs lectures and labs.
Instruction of students in all aspects of general practice and emergency and critical care, clinical teaching of third year veterinary students.
Supplemental teaching - In addition to teaching in the core courses for the DVM program, faculty may be required to support departmental teaching in the graduate program and the pre-veterinary program as well as the Integrated Team Instruction delivery of the DVM program – a small group based curriculum delivery. Deliver lectures in following courses/disciplines:
Clinical mentorship, supervision, and training of junior faculty
Clinical mentorship and supervision of technicians and assistants
Service:
Participate in the following University activities, as required:
Provide clinical service on medicine, emergency and critical care and surgery
Work with emergency cases and after hours shifts on a rotational basis, including but not limited to overnights and weekends

Contribute to collaborative research projects between SGU and affiliate schools
Membership of various committees and special committee assignments

Faculty Meetings
Administrative roles, as assigned by the Chair of the Department and/or the Dean
Outreach efforts in the local community
Expected to perform any other duties as assigned by the SAC director
Research and Scholarly Activities:
Actively engage in a research topic in a relevant area
Support student research and learning through supervision and mentoring of selected students
Contribute to curriculum review and innovation
Practice continuous quality improvement of the courses and content delivered by the department
Active participation in scientific/educational conferences and continued education
Contribute to the academic advisory system for all students enrolled on the DVM program.
Qualifications
- DVM, MSc with Board Certification
Desirable Qualities
Experience teaching a clinical skills curriculum
Excellent oral and written communication skills
A commitment to the education of veterinary professionals
Should enjoy working with veterinary students in a clinical educational setting
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a positive attitude toward student enrichment in all areas of academic and practical preparatory coursework
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Clinical setting including examination rooms, treatment areas, and diagnostic labs
Regular standing, bending, & lifting (up to 50 lbs)
Hours and Travel
Shift schedules with shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
On-call duties may be required for emergency cases.
Travel may be required
Shifts are all year round, except for a 30-day vacation period
