Position Announcement

Reporting to the Director of Student Belonging within Student Affairs, this position will work under the Interim Executive Director of Student Engagement and Leadership and will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of student life and engagement programing in on-campus housing. This position will assist to coordinate, develop and manage an effective student life program to create an engaging on-campus housing community. This will involve; reviewing, evaluating, recommending, tracking and approving on-campus housing events. The coordinator will also manage and provide training, supervision and support to on-campus housing event leaders in the planning and staging of on- campus housing programming, events, and activities. The candidate will also need to be fiscally responsible as they will be asked to track the operational budgets for on-campus housing events. The overarching goal being to assist in establishing strong student communities and promote a robust social and educational environment that encourages student connections, enhances student belonging, through the building of positive relationships.This position is fully funded for one year; contingent upon funding thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students to plan and implement a diverse range of events, environments and activities that promote social engagement, belonging, cultural awareness, and educational enrichment for on-campus residents.

  • Work closely with the Director of Student Belonging and other campus departments to coordinate and implement comprehensive student belonging programming. Promote a robust social and educational environment that encourages student connections and enhances student belonging.

  • Assist students to execute social events that celebrate belonging, identity and promote cross-cultural engagement among on-campus residents. Review, evaluate, recommend, track, and approve on-campus housing events to ensure alignment with student needs and interests.

  • Integrate wellness perspectives into programming using the Trailblazer Wellness Model to promote holistic student well-being.

  • Oversee the logistical aspects of event planning, including venue selection, resource allocation, and risk management. Ensure all events and programs comply with university policies and procedures, including risk management, centralized scheduling, budgets, P-card usage, travel policies, and fire codes.

  • Assist with tracking and managing the operational budgets from student fees for on-campus housing events, ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective use of resources. Develop and monitor financial plans for events, including cost estimates, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.

  • Create a supportive and collaborative working environment where student leaders can flourish and grow as they engage with various divisions, areas, departments, and individuals across campus.

  • Assist leadership development programs for on-campus housing event leaders and other student leaders.

  • Stay current on theory, practices, techniques, rules, regulations, and protocols related to student life engagement, belonging and on-campus housing.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all on-campus housing events, programs, and activities. Prepare regular reports on program outcomes, budget expenditures, and other relevant metrics for review by the Director of Student Belonging and the Interim Executive Director of Student Engagement and Leadership.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Communications, Student Affairs, or related field required.

  • Experience working in student engagement, resident life, student involvement, or related fields required.

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring in an academic setting, community organizing, and other leadership roles preferred.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required; proficiency in a second language (other than English) preferred.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the academic, personal, and social needs of all students required.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently; demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Extensive knowledge, skills and abilities related to mentoring students, event planning, and developing community and campus partnerships.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google suite and social media technologies required.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

  • Ability to travel to various events and activities, as well as work some evenings and weekends based on the associated activity schedule.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $45,000+ depending on qualifications and experience.Position fully funded for one year; contingent upon funding thereafter. Desired start date of August/September 2024.
