MnDOT District 3 will fill 2 temporary Snow Plow Driver positions, one in Monticello and one in Elk River.

Temporary employees have a schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm or during a snow and ice event will go on a split shift which could include weekends.

During a snow & ice season employees are typically split into an A or B shift, 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift); an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event.

Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour (1) of being called.

Job Duties: (A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.)

  • Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.

  • Prepares and inspects winter equipment.

  • Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.

  • Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.

  • Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.

  • Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.

  • Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

The level of experience to perform this job at the TG level can be achieved with:

  • Experience: One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).

OR

  • Education: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.(In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

AND

  • Class A or B CDL with no air brake restriction and a tanker endorsement .

  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist.

Physical Requirements

A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into specific job classifications will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam. The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.

NOTE: The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM).
