DeZurik Inc. Director of Environmental Health and Safety in St. Cloud, Minnesota

GENERAL SUMMARY The Director of Environmental Health and Safety serves as the primary environmental and safety leader for all locations of DeZURIK operations. This role has organization-wide impact and is an effective leader and change-agent within the Safety function and across the organization. The Director of Environmental Health and Safety develops, directs and implements programming necessary to create a culture of safety an environmental compliance. This role is responsible for the management of a comprehensive EHS system that controls cost and risk associated with environmental compliance, sustainability, health and safety. The Director of Environmental Health and Safety will need to meet the core values of DeZURIK. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) Maintains compliance with all federal, state and local regulations related to EHS and submits reports to appropriate agencies. Directs the development of training programs to meet objectives through LMS for all DeZURIK locations. Responsible for training team members on Behavioral Based Safety programs. Ensures all environmental written programs, plans and permits (i.e. SPCC, SWPPP, Title IV Air Permit, Wastewater permit, Hazardous waste management, etc.) and all associated reports. Identifies common safety/health hazards inherent in the organization s operations, and establishes processes and procedures for protection from those hazards. Ensures hazard analysis of all operational jobs with appropriate PPE being applied if hazard can not be controlled. Audits safety programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations and unique local conditions. Monitors periodic performance reports for trends and conditions, and alerts appropriate management to correct problem areas. Develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines and to ensure best practices for the overall safety and health of the DeZURIK team members. Investigates major accidents/incidents/hazards, recommends future preventive measures and ensures implementation. Has oversight of all DeZURIK locations to ensure compliance with government environmental health and safety standards, and ensures consistency of procedures and record keeping. Reviews new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards and recommends modifications before introduction. Works with team members and supervisors to identify and correct potential safety and health hazards. Develops safe standard work practices and monitors conformance. Provide feedback to support plant engineering to assist with implementation of engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. Manages Workers Compensation program. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor s Degree with emphasis in Occupational Safety or related technical field. Minimum of 7-10 years of related experience. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience. Experience with and understanding of safety in a manufacturing environment. Professional certification is a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong situational analysis skills, to identify problems and solutions. Polished group and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. PC skills: spreadsheet and word processing skills adequate to produce necessary work documents. Ability to lead, motivate and influence with and without direct authority. Ability to develop and implement environment and safety programs. Ability to create and maintain record keeping in compliance with all company and regulatory agencies. Ability to set high standards and get results. Ability to travel approximately 25-30% of the time in both US and Canada. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone. Position requires movement throughout the office in order to resolve work problems and facilitate processes. WORKING CONDITIONS Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Stress may result from workload and meeting schedules. Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
