Summary: The VP, Projects is ultimately accountable for managing all aspects of planning, engineering, implementing, and overseeing EPC projects. The VP, Projects will manage a team of project directors who are responsible for delivering projects according to contract scope, schedule, and budget. The VP is responsible for recruiting, coaching, mentoring their team, and providing an experienced escalation point for critical project issues.

The VP and their team are responsible for a portfolio of EPC projects. They are responsible for the overall administrative and technical direction of project operations. Additionally, they are responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the entire engineering, procurement, and construction effort (including coordination with internal support teams) to ensure projects are completed per design, budget, and schedule.

Requirements:

  • Ensures projects are completed safely and according to the planned schedule and budget, while meeting Client expectations and requirements.

  • Ensures that environmental stewardship meets or exceeds contractual requirements and regional/local regulations.

  • Ensures the implementation and follow-through of company management systems, including HSQE, stage gate approval, and project management processes.

  • Oversees budget management, estimate reviews, budget preparation, and monthly status reviews.

  • Leads monthly project reviews for all business unit projects and reports on key project performance to the SVP, and as needed, to the Executive Leadership Team.

  • Leads project management and senior management meetings regarding internal project status.

  • Strategizes and advises Project Directors and Project Managers on risk management and profit improvement on projects.​

  • Reviews risks and opportunities in the monthly financial forecast and ensures all issues to mitigate risks and capture opportunities to improve project performance are addressed.

  • Travels for negotiations, project site visits, as well as internal and client meetings as required.

  • Engages regularly with senior client management to address concerns, resolve project issues, and finalize change orders while maintaining a positive relationship.

  • Able to conduct workshops, coach, and train others on identifying, using, and explaining the advantages of the change management process.

  • Negotiates change order settlements at executive level​.

  • Coaches and guides project teams on negotiating basic/complex contracts and how to analyze key contract terms and risks. ​

  • Uses past experience to set realistic performance targets when developing the project schedule, with regards to safety, quality and cost & risk management.​

  • Manages Client relations at executive level.​

  • Coaches, mentors, and trains direct reports and key leaders in the project management organization, providing an escalation point for critical project issues.

  • Performs talent management, staffing reviews, and identification of future talent requirements through succession planning focused on leadership-level roles.

  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.

  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.

  • Prepares, in collaboration with Commercial and Legal groups, required risk management and approval papers per the Stage-Gate and DOA requirements.

  • Collaborates with HSQE, Commercial, PMO, Operational Excellence, and Engineering groups as required for process implementation and improvement.

  • Collaborates with other business units to cross-sell integrated project solutions to clients.

  • Provides feedback to the proposals team on issues that could have been identified during the bid phase as well as on project execution issues and areas for improvement.

  • Must have strong project management skills, experience, and background with the ability to plan and oversee multiple projects at the executive level.

  • Ability to collaborate with other departments to improve processes and procedures and implement industry best practices.

  • Must have strong financial and general management background at high-performing organizations.

  • Strong analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to use data analysis to build actionable insights.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to tailor them to individual personalities. Communicates clearly and effectively with, but not limited to, Executive Managers, Directors, Project Managers, Estimators, Project Developers, Site Accountants, Engineering, Legal, HSQE, Human Resources, cross-functional departmental teams, clients, potential clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Managementrequired.

  • Master’s degree in Construction Management or Project Management preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of industry-related experience in operationally complex organizations.

  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience managing EPC projects and teams to include both direct team leadership development and large operations team leadership.

  • Minimum of 5 years in a similar position with relevant and comparable EPC projects.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally: 31%-50%.

  • Valid Driver’s License Required.

Anticipated base salary range: $230,000-$271,000.

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
