Job Responsibilities

30% 1. Under general direction, serves as a System Administrator for the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT):

  • Performs difficult and specialized professional functions for IES long-term solution activities.
  • Researches, plans, implements, configures, tests, documents, maintains, communicates, and coordinates in relationship to software and operating systems.
  • Performs system configurations, testing, and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems in accordance with agency requirements and Information Technology policy.
  • Performs implementation and support of web-based systems utilizing reverse proxies, .net servers and J2EE applications servers, TCP/IP, Enterprise networks, VPN, LDAP Access methods.
  • Lifts and carries equipment for installation, maintenance, configuration, administration, and problem resolution for, IBM Tivoli, IBM ISAM, IBM Webseal, IBM Websphere, IBM HTTP, Ansible, and various monitoring tool and scripting languages.
  • Reviews and evaluates customer requests.
  • Develops solutions to satisfy customer needs and to ensure requests meet standards and procedures.
  • Advises management and recommends hardware and software products for applications.
  • Develops interface functions between software and servers.
  • Documents installation, systems generation, configurations, testing and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems.

  • Advises on federal security compliance.

  • Documents installation and enhancements.
  • Conducts feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.
  • Maintains and coordinates software and servers with the clients.

25% 2. Provides technical assistance of average complexity to clients and technicians pertaining to software and operating systems:

  • Conducts reviews of software, components, and processes making recommendations for modifications to provide availability, flexibility, and usability for the clients; reviews, creates, or modifies current configurations, tables, and programs.
  • Maintains established security processes.
  • Monitors software and servers and produces beneficial reports.
  • Provides assistance and back-up for day-to-day solution activities as needed/assigned.

20% 3. Performs problem diagnosis of software and operating system problems:

  • Evaluates and resolves problems when notified by recognized processes, clients, or technicians.
  • Resolves basic hardware and software problems.
  • Assists in the diagnosis and resolution of system software problems.
  • Confers with vendors to resolve software and hardware problems and serves on-call for the more specialized situations.
  • Serves as liaison between agency customers and Department of Innovation & Technology management staff and technicians for resolution of customer requirements.
  • Monitors trouble tickets to ensure acceptable service levels to agencies within listed time frames are being met.
  • Escalates time sensitive trouble calls to senior staff and/or appropriate vendor for faster resolution time.

15% 4. Participates on projects as a team member for assignments in relationship to infrastructure support:

  • Coordinates multiple tasks as part of larger projects.
  • Serves as project coordinator for standard projects including small/medium size hardware/software deployments and installations.
  • Determines and coordinates project components such as project scheduling and assignments.
  • Assigns and reviews the work of project analyst staff; provides

    expertise, guidance, and direction to staff.

  • Reviews results and incorporates individual components of project into the final product.

5% 5. Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations

5% 6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
