Job Title: Yard Worker/Load Builder

Job Description

Working outdoors all year long in a lumber yard, the Yard Worker/Load Builder will be responsible for cleaning, yard maintenance, stocking, and assisting customers. This role includes loading customers as they come into the yard, installing strapping, bracing, or padding to secure loads, moving inventory, assembling packages, staging orders, and load building. The position requires extensive use of large sit-down propane or diesel forklifts (6k-11k lbs), hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment. The goal is to maximize time spent on the forklift, frequently jumping in and out of the cab.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain the yard.

  • Stock materials and assist customers.

  • Load customers' vehicles and secure loads with strapping, bracing, or padding.

  • Move inventory, assemble packages, and stage orders.

  • Build loads and load trucks for delivery to customer job sites.

  • Operate large sit-down propane or diesel forklifts, hand trucks, and dollies.

  • Work primarily on the forklift, frequently entering and exiting the cab.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in general labor, ideally with an understanding of construction and lumber products.

  • Ability to take direction and be teachable.

  • Stable job history with steady employment.

  • Capability to work long days on their feet, with prior experience working outdoors.

  • Experience in driving (DOT/Non CDL) is a plus.

  • Prior experience in order pulling, staging, forklift operation, construction, pallet building, material handling, RF scanner use, loading, unloading, order picking, production, customer service, landscaping, and yard work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Forklift experience preferred, with the ability to climb in and out of the cab and twist the torso.

  • Comfortable using a circular saw or chop saw to cut wood.

  • Open to entry-level candidates who can be trained.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 80 lbs occasionally.

  • 2+ years of experience in a warehouse setting preferred, with prior lumber experience being a plus.

  • Customer service skills, with the ability to interact with and load customer trucks.

Work Environment

Our Client is the nation's largest supplier of structural building materials and components for new residential construction, repair, and remodeling. The work primarily takes place in a large warehouse and lumber yard, with the majority of tasks performed outdoors in various temperatures and weather conditions. The environment includes loud equipment and noise, with employees frequently using forklifts and other machinery.
