       The Spencerport School District is currently accepting applications for Director of Security. This position is responsible for directing and supervising school district safety and security functions. The duties involve evaluating, developing, and monitoring programs, practices, measures and procedures as well as training.Candidates must be eligible for appointment as Director of School Safety and Security, as per the rules and regulations of the Monroe County Department of Human Resources and Civil Service.Knowledge/Skills:The individual should possess:

  • An even temperament, good manners, and the ability to comprehend and carry out the objectives of this position in a way that is supportive of the overall objectives of the Spencerport Central School District, as well as supportive of the District’s mission, vision, and core values;

  • Good judgment and discretion in working with students to minimize conflict and confrontation;

  • The ability to interact and work well with others, dependability, an interest in student’s wellbeing and safety, the ability to handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion;

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and tools of a modern safety and security program related to an educational facility;

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local security and safety regulations;

  • Good knowledge of investigative techniques and knowledge of negotiating techniques in a crisis situation;

  • Ability to evaluate, develop, and monitor school safety and security regulations, and policies;

  • The ability to gain and maintain good rapport with students of all ages, staff and community members; and

  • Technologically proficient.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Answer and report directly to the respective building and district administrators on all matters concerning security within the school building and on the school campus.

  • Oversee and manage security department staff, including scheduling, performance, and payroll.

  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources regarding any hiring of new security personnel.

  • Educate students on school safety protocols and serve in a counselor/mentor role.

  • Serve as a resource for parents/guardians, students, staff, Board members, and community members regarding law-related concerns.

  • Educate and train staff members on Tap App and other topics related to school safety.

  • Develop and implement short-term and long-term recommendations from district safety audit.

  • Conduct presentations and trainings on the use of the Raptor software, camera systems, emergency procedure and protocol, appropriate handling of critical incidents, and other related topics.

  • Implement and maintain district and building emergency response plans and act as liaison with Altaris.

  • Conduct investigations into student discipline matters and matters regarding threats of violent conduct.

  • Attend threat assessment meetings, provide training, offer guidance, track open cases, assist with documentation and follow-up.

  • Investigate reports of criminal activity occurring on school property.

  • Assist building and district administration with matters concerning student discipline, so as to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.

  • Provide security at athletic and district-wide events as deemed necessary.

  • Manage building access controls and radio inventory.

  • Assist the Director of Transportation in security-related matters applicable to usage of buses by students, as well as reported traffic law violations (i.e., passing stopped school buses, etc.).

  • Act as District liaison with the Ogden Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, and other law enforcement and emergency service agencies.

  • Receive, investigate and report on Workplace Violence Prevention Program.

  • Health and Safety Committee Chairperson.

  • Serves as District Chief Emergency Officer

  • Manages Safe Schools Helpline.

  • Manages security department budget.

  • Attend Administrative meetings as scheduled.

  • Perform other related duties as may be required.

Required Credentials: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in an organized police department in the State of New York in the rank of Captain or above.

Special Requirements: Registration as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State at the time of appointment.Reports To: Superintendent of Schools

Appointment: Full-time; 10 months, plus summer daysStarting Date: As soon as possibleSalary/Rate of Pay: $80,000 - $85,000 per year commensurate with experience, summer days on time card.
