Charles Schwab Senior Manager, Software Development & Engineering in Southlake, Texas

The Senior Software Development Engineer Manager will manage platform support for key Schwab systems. This individual will engage primarily with direct and indirect reports and business partners, including application developers, technical directors, enterprise architects, SRE, QA, Project Managers, program management, and business partners. This individual must have strong organizational, people leadership capabilities and experience with onshore/offshore staffing models. Candidates should have a passion for understanding problems, running experiments and learning. Specifically in this role, we are looking for someone who can understand the demand on the teams, how to manage the demand, subsequent delivery and collaborate with customers and partners on improvements.

  • Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to define strategy and scope of software requirements (decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks)

  • Deliver new concepts and features, working alongside development peers in an agile environment

  • Serve as an informal leader: leading code reviews and mentoring junior team members

  • Partner with scrum master and product owner to provide development sizing & cost analysis estimates

  • Utilize automated software test tools and frameworks such as test-driven development to achieve the highest quality in software delivery

  • Support integration efforts to build whole systems from various subsystems

  • Identify technology risks early and establish mitigation plans.

  • Leading the development team to deliver capabilities from inception to production.

  • Leading daily design activities, promoting Agile practices, and coordinating with key collaborators to meet project deadlines and budget

  • Estimating capability costs and collaborating with Technology and Product Leadership for efficient task prioritization and sequencing

  • Partnering with Schwab domain and enterprise architects to build scalable solutions

  • Influencing external vendor partners to meet Schwab standards and ensure platform health

  • Ensuring quality through automated testing, effective alerting, and proactive monitoring of solutions

  • Driving development and release process improvements through best practices and standards

  • Proactively identifying risks, establishing mitigation plans, and maintaining documentation and code quality standards

What you have

Required:

  • 8+ years of experience in actively developing large scale distributed and mainframe software

  • 5+ years of software development management experience leading teams of 10 people comprised of full-time, onshore, and offshore in a large organization

  • 4+ years of experience working with containers and microservices in the cloud

  • 2+ years of experience with relational database, NoSQL databases and messaging technologies (Rabbit MQ, Kafka, or equivalent)

  • 2+ years of Agile methodology and experience in an Agile working environment

  • 2+ years of experience with the Atlassian tool stack (JIRA et alia)

  • 2+ years of experience with .NET framework and programming tools (Visual Studio) and C#

  • 2+ years of experience in RabbitMQ

  • 2+ years of experience in Financial Services industry

  • 2+ years of experience in Test Driven Development

Preferred:

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems creatively, while meeting deadlines

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including offshore teams and manage offshore development activities

  • Ability to effectively engage subject matter experts and understand technical topics

  • Ability to work effectively with technical and business experts

  • Willingness and ability to learn all aspects of test data management and associated tools

  • Ability to research and document production and test environments along with architecture and design work

  • Proficient in developing Visio diagrams, architectural and design documentations, functional and technical specifications, automated test process

  • Track record of balancing management and delivery of problems, incidents, technical debt and product roadmap with awareness of target results/outcomes.

  • Well-developed strategy for driving continuous improvement within teams and beyond; Using both qualitative and quantitative measures to understand problems and communicate impact of experiments.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the demonstrable ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Experience relentlessly pursuing and maintaining high quality while delivering on tight schedules.

  • Collaborative mindset coupled with a bias for action to effectively engage with all areas of the business including Product Management, Architects, SRE, Talent Acquisition, Finance, adjacent teams, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to disagree, argue your case with data, and commit to deliver regardless of the outcome of the disagreement.
