Charles Schwab Director, Technology Risk Management in Southlake, Texas

Technology Risk Management (TRM) is part of the Corporate Risk Management (CRM) department that forms the second line of defense at Charles Schwab. TRM provides challenge with partnership for the firm’s information technology, security, and resilience practices to manage risks to Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, and Value Delivery within the Firm’s Risk Appetite. Within TRM, the Infrastructure Vulnerabilities Risk Management (IVRM) team assesses, monitors, measures, and reports on technical risks related to infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Reporting to the Director, IVRM, this Director role is an individual contributor who will engage with and influence internal stakeholders to effectively create well-defined scope, policies/standards, tooling/automation, and risks/controls for some portion of the expanded areas of vulnerability management - IoT, Mobility, Private/Public Cloud, and Secure Baseline Configuration. This Director will be expected to independently oversee the assigned areas of scope, foster innovation, and strengthen the relationships among our partner teams to strike the right balance between risk and business performance as well as articulate and contextualize our risk posture for the infrastructure vulnerability risk space. This Director’s core body of work includes but is not limited to developing oversight and governance for the expanded coverage areas’ strategy and roadmap, including technology enablement; validating the remediation of vulnerabilities-related issues; and delivering thematic analysis, trending, and risk-based insights for presentation to senior management, risk committees, the Board, and regulators.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus PMP, CRISC, CISSP, CISA, CISM, or equivalent certification preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the financial services industry serving in roles with increasing risk management responsibility

  • Ability to identify, assess, and prioritize potential risks

  • Understanding of risk assessment methodologies

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, influencing, prioritization, decision-making and conflict resolution skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading and supporting strategic, complex, and cross-functional Risk Management governance and oversight programs

  • Possess a visionary mindset, anticipating changes and obstacles that may impact the broader business area

  • Drive change and adoption through the ability to take a broad view of the cross-functional perspectives, continuous process improvement, and operational discipline that contribute to sustainability

  • Exceptional relationship management and influencing skills at all levels of the organization, with the ability to navigate complex and nuanced business and risk environments, while building trust and balancing diverse organizational priorities

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with senior management, regulator, and large audiences

  • Ability to act decisively in making solid, informed judgement calls in response to programmatic and operational directives, including navigating optimal outcomes when faced with disagreement

  • Strategic thinker who can anticipate the implications and consequences of situations and take appropriate action to be prepared for possible contingencies

  • Ability to function in both strategic and execution capacities in a matrixed environment while prioritizing effectively and managing stakeholders in a fast-paced environment

  • Displays confidence and conviction when discussing body of work, including promoting successes and owning opportunities for improvement
