Position Title: EMC Specialist
Job Description: Start to finish ownership of Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance – from specification, to design, prototype, testing and manufacturing. Decompose and validate system level requirements to the component level. Interface closely with cross-functional team members globally to collaborate on new product development projects while meeting schedule, cost, and product performance goals. Develop EMC/EMI solutions, test plan, test method and procedure for EATON/Industrial sector products as assigned. Predict and diagnose EMC/EMI noise emission through modelling and experimental investigation. Supervision of PCB layout for minimal stray parameters, power/signal plane definition for EMC optimization. Work closely with OEM’s/suppliers on development of filters and other EMC/EMI noise mitigation designs for inverter, converter, and other electronics. Evaluate alternative design solutions to meet product development requirements factoring in performance, features, cost, and schedule. Work closely with power electronics, PCB layout and mechanical design engineers to successfully develop EMI compliant power converters and power distribution systems. Design to EMC test standards such as ISO and CISPR. Support benchmarking activities, focusing on EMC/EMI related designs and performance. Interface with key stakeholders in program management and quality to ensure the completion of the engineering teams assigned tasks on time. Actively participate in failure investigations and root cause analysis for both current products and new products in development. Position is fixed location based in Southfield, MI office; however, telecommuting from a home office may also be allowed.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electric-drive Vehicle Engineering, or a directly related field plus eight (8) years of experience with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience must include:
Four (4) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently):
• Using or guiding usage of measuring equipment including spectrum analyzer, signal generators, amplifier, antennas, etc.
• Schematic capture, power converter, PCB Layout and electro-magnetic circuit simulation tools such as Ansys, Altium designer, eCAD, LT-Spice, and MATLAB.
• Conducting and radiating noise sources and their mitigation techniques in power electronic systems or industrial sector.
• Power distribution systems, new technology sensors, actuators, and other electronic products.
• Working closely with cross functional teams in the product development for EMC compliance.
• Lab instrumentation, such as oscilloscope, logic analyzers
40 hours/week, 9:00am-5:00pm.
