Job Title: Laboratory Services Coordinator

Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Services Coordinator to join our team. This role involves significant interaction with member scientists to ensure seamless operations of laboratory services, equipment, and supplies. The ideal candidate will be traveling approximately 70% of the time to various sites, including South San Francisco (SSF) and occasionally to Berkeley or Hayward.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively interact with member scientists to identify and resolve issues with services, equipment, and supplies.

  • Use an electronic ticket system to record issues and report progress to requestors.

  • Establish and maintain a pleasant and cooperative working relationship with clients.

  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) associated with the BVL document management system.

  • Assist in coordinating outside vendors for lab equipment preventative maintenance.

  • Understand operational laboratory workflows and successfully balance routine tasks and ad-hoc work.

  • Suggest ideas and solutions for site improvements and increase efficiency.

  • Help improve existing policies and procedures for current and future BVL sites.

  • Perform direct administrative tasks including invoicing, maintaining spreadsheets, file management, mailing and shipping packages, organizing procedures, overseeing supplies and equipment, and updating databases.

  • Accept and provide input as a genuine team player.

  • Recognize, prioritize, and accomplish needed tasks.

  • Use courtesy, tact, and firmness in dealing with the public.

  • Evaluate alternative solutions and present recommendations.

  • Handle facility and equipment maintenance, including receiving packages, removing medical/biohazardous waste, keeping common instrument areas clean, monitoring and refilling dry ice and liquid nitrogen levels, entering chemicals into inventory, assisting with inventory systems, autoclaving dishes and media, preparing common lab solutions, maintaining biosafety cabinets and incubators, inspecting and labeling safety equipment, defrosting freezers, performing cold storage inspections, and supporting waste management.

Essential Skills

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Experience with laboratory equipment

  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Proficiency in administrative tasks such as invoicing and database management

  • Ability to recognize, prioritize, and accomplish tasks independently

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with operational laboratory workflows

  • Ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public

  • Experience in facility and equipment maintenance

  • Familiarity with chemical inventory systems

  • Ability to suggest and implement site improvements

Work Environment

Work Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm, in a small team of 3-4 people per site. You will be based in South San Francisco 70% of the time and will occasionally travel to Berkeley or Hayward, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00
