Description:

Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of mice as needed.

Use applicable software for the tracking of surgery mice.

Successfully perform minor surgeries on mice, such as Jugular Vascular Cannulation (JVC), Artery Vascular Cannulation, and Soft Tissue Surgeries (Vasectomy, Splenectomy, Ovariectomy).

Assist with the maintenance of catheterized animals.

Provide dosing in mice including IM, IV, SQ, and orally.

Perform tissue biopsies, necropsy, euthanasia and organ harvest.

Follows protocol to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in care.

Cares for mice including feeding, cleaning and surgery support responsibilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Experience in animal husbandry, breeding, weaning, health monitoring, documentation, and record keeping.

5+ years of mice surgery experience required.

Previous experience dissecting mouse organs (brain, kidney) for isolation of specific anatomical structures.

High school diploma or Associate degree in Animal Science or related area preferred.

Pertinent work experience (such as laboratory, veterinary or surgical experience) may be substituted for education.

Completion of training equivalent to the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification of AALAS required.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel).

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
