Overview

Under general supervision and in alignment with organizational policies, procedures, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the Registered Nurse (RN) -- GMU oversees patient care throughout their stay to ensure quality outcomes and timely discharge. This role involves utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation), coordinating care with other healthcare professionals, delegating tasks within the scope of nursing practice, and documenting patient responses and needs. Direct care providers must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Nursing (required). Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred, must be obtained within 8 years of hire).
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in Michigan (required)
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Additional certifications may be required for specific units (e.g., critical care, ALS).

Emergency Department: SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course within 6 months of hire.

Special Care Unit: Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
  • Assess and document patient health and needs
  • Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments
  • Evaluate patient responses and adjust care plans as needed
  • Professional Standards:
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Engage in ongoing educational activities and maintain professional competency
  • Provide culturally sensitive care
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members
  • Advocate for patients and integrate ethical provisions in practice
  • Utilize research to improve patient care and practice environment
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact in care planning
  • Provide leadership and contribute to a healthy work environment

Additional Responsibilities for Scrub RN:

  • Prepare for surgical procedures by reviewing procedure cards and ensuring necessary supplies and equipment
  • Anticipate surgeon's needs during procedures
  • Maintain awareness of the operative field and patient condition
  • Act as a resource for circulators unfamiliar with specialty equipment or implants
  • Participate in on-call rotations

  • Additional on-call requirements above regular hours

For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital:

  • Complete the annual "Swing Beds" CBL to understand the care and documentation differences for swing bed patients
