Job Description

Grace South Haven is looking for an R&D Chemist to join our R&D team. The R&D Chemist will work on developing processes for new products to enable scaleup to the kilo lab and pilot plant settings. The position requires a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a MS/BS in Chemistry with greater than 15 years of relevant work experience in API process development. The successful candidate must be a highly productive, results-oriented individual capable of generating and implementing original ideas and solutions that contribute materially to the success and development of drug substance candidates. Strong communication, organization, and planning skills; and a high level of technical expertise and creativity are required for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for defining, developing, and demonstrating commercially viable processes for custom products with a focus on developing economical and robust processes while minimizing waste streams.

  • Sound understanding of synthetic organic chemistry fundamentals, advanced technical knowledge and experience in API process development, process scale-up, troubleshooting, and optimization.

  • Familiarity with modern laboratory instrumentation (HPLC, GC, NMR, XRPD, etc).

  • Ability to design and develop novel synthetic routes that can be scaled to kilo lab or plant assets.

  • Familiarity with cGMP Kilo-lab for the scale-up and manufacture of early phase APIs

  • Strong knowledge of development of robust crystallizations for intermediates and APIs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact, lead, and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team environment.

  • Experience with laboratory automation equipment – parallel reactor technology, and process analytical instrumentation.

  • Proven ability in problem solving and multi-tasking.

  • High Achiever / Self-starter / Strong Interpersonal Skills.

  • Ability to balance individual and team responsibilities.

  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills - verbal and written.

  • Strong regulatory background – familiar with ICH Q7, Q8, Q9, Q10 and Q11.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Organic Chemistry minimum 1-5 years of API development/manufacturing or relevant experience.

  • MS with 5-10 years of experience in API development/manufacturing or relevant experience.
