The role
Our Water Group has an exciting opening to lead our Digital Engineering team within QLD. In this role, you will report to the Water Business Leader – QLD and provide leadership to the Digital Engineering team to ensure alignment with company vision, strategy, initiatives, and culture. An essential element of the role is to support the Business Leader in state-based activities such as business development, business planning and performance in the Digital Engineering sector. The role also has a strong focus on collaboration with Water business line peers from other offices and with Group Leaders of other business lines both within QLD and nationally. You will also be responsible for working with your Team Leaders to manage the group’s professional development, career paths, safety and well-being. While leading the team, you will also be responsible for delivering high quality Digital Engineering consulting services.
The Group Leader position is a function, in addition to an employee’s substantive technical/project contribution role. Technical capabilities may include any of the below:
BIM Management
Senior/Principal Civil Design (C3D experience preferred)
Senior/Principal Mechanical Design (Plant 3D experience preferred)
Senior/Principal Structural Design (Revit experience)
Please note that the successful candidate for this role would ideally be located at Stantec’s South Brisbane Office for a minimum 3 days per week.
Specifically, your duties will include:
Reporting to the Business Leader – Water, QLD (BL), the Group Leader is responsible for:
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the correct staffing level and shape based on current and future workloads for their teams, and to support needs of other regions where required.
Coordinate resource and technical development requirements with Practice Leaders, technical Discipline Leaders and other Group Leaders based locally and in other offices
Prepare and/or review proposals, variation estimates, and submission documents, and review and evaluate subconsultant submissions to ensure they are suitable.
Ensure the business delivers work that secures repeat business for valued clients.
Participate in projects as either BIM Manager, Discipline design/model Lead or other substantive technical or delivery roles.
Be responsible for the team’s talent management lifecycle including but not limited to; recruitment suggestions, career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.
Foster a success-oriented environment within your team by displaying collaborative behaviors and exerting measured and balanced influence.
Promote a happy, supportive, and inclusive culture aligned with the core values to support the strategic intent of the business.
Be responsible for team utilisation by effective forecasting, networking, business development and delegation and development of backlog.
Alongside the above Group Leader responsibilities, you are expected to perform technical delivery in your area of expertise, including:
Coordinate multi‐disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution.
Support our delivery teams, acting in a senior leadership and management role on projects.
When required on projects, perform digital engineering tasks relevant to your area of expertise.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to juniors.

Relevant experience (min 10 years’ consulting experience within the water / related industry) and tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.
Experience managing teams, including monitoring and reporting on the performance of the team.
Ability to foster and grow a collaborative spirit and work sharing between staff working within the region, Business Centre and across the broader Stantec service lines
To be committed to working in the office at least 3 days / week to make sure you are a visible leader supporting the development of a strong team culture.
A broad range of skills covering people management, business development and project delivery
Highly developed interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with the team as well as internal and external clients
Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes
Well-developed problem solving and negotiations skills to resolve queries.
Have a working knowledge and understanding of end-to-end water and wastewater and/or dams and hydro service delivery would be highly regarded
