We are looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Manager interested in starting a SWEET career as part of our Manufacturing t team at PIM’s Pierce Location in Somerset, NJ .

JOB OVERVIEW

The incumbent provides the strategic and leadership direction for the Somerset and Park Ridge headquarters operations for all Environmental, Safety & Health (EHS) matters. Creates real value for the organization by ensuring risk is aggressively identified and mitigated. Serves as the plant’s primary point of contact for all EHS regulatory and community contacts and is the primary technical resource.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement and monitor Safety Programs, which includes the prevention and elimination of injuries, near misses, musculoskeletal disorders, and damage to company property.

  • Establish the Plant's Safety performance goals.

  • Manage the Radiation Safety program; badge monitoring, surveys, medical surveillance, scheduling, NJDEP reporting

  • Manage the Crisis Management program from incidents, documentation, training scenarios, such as Active Shooter, COVID- 19 pandemic, Risk Assessments, etc.

  • Manage the Worker’s Compensation program, including but not limited to insurance, medical billings, medical treatment, Accommodations, RTW, etc.

  • Liaison with company attorney’s in matters of litigation, injuries, workers compensation.

  • Primary contact representative with regulatory officials in matters of NJDEP, OSHA, Board of Health. NJDEP Radiation.

  • Manage the Contractor Safety Program including but not limited to submittals, documentation review.

  • Manage all safety related COVID-19 items: bio-temperature screenings, dust masks, documentation, etc.

  • Conducts weekly New Hire Orientation and Crisis Management training and documentation as needed.

  • Manages and coordinate the company 6S program and initiatives.

  • Oversee quarterly hazardous waste management program and sign off on proper manifesting documentation, transportation and disposal (cradle to grave).

  • Coordinates with the affected departments and conducts all EHS related training.

  • Manages annual EHS budget and prepares forecasts expenditures.

  • Follow PIM Brands GMP rules.

  • Report food safety and quality issues to Plant management and SQFP

  • Monitor associates for adherence to GMP’s.

  • Provide associates with the tools, programs, policies and metrics to meet the Plant's Safety goals.

  • Prepares written Safety, Security and Environmental programs, policies and SOPs.

  • Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety, security and environmental considerations.

  • Manages the plant’s three safety committees. Reviews plant safety committee meetings minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.

  • Understands federal and state safety and environmental regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.

  • Completes and/or approves all required regulatory and company reporting documents (e.g. OSHA logs, air permits, radiation surveys, wastewater monitoring reports, DEP, etc.).

  • Investigate injuries and near misses; evaluate the incident report and accident report, determine root causes and preventive measures; follow up and conduct counseling sessions; complete Accident Alerts and complete OSHA 300 Log.

  • Identifies company safety training needs and develops, coordinates safety training programs for all full time and agency employees per OSHA regulations.

  • Participates in new process/equipment reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.

  • Supports plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.

  • Support SQF/NSF compliance through active participation in internal audits and factory quality programs.

  • Promotes safety and health awareness through internal communication.

  • Audits practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and environmental regulations.

  • Perform Job hazard and Ergonomics analysis

  • Generate safety work orders

  • Identify PPE and safety equipment needs throughout the facility, order and maintain PPE/Safety equipment supply.

  • Schedules and executes trainings for security guards.

  • Conducts required training of plant environmental team and facility management. Leads the facility emergency response planning and training.

  • Maintains and prepares timely applications for all plant environmental permits.

  • Leads and implements the safe operation of the Wastewater Treatment system.

  • Maintain and promote a safe working environment by coaching employees in safety methods; identify and address violations in conjunction with department supervisor/manager.

  • Develop and implement new methods and process improvements to enhance safety performance, control costs and generate high satisfaction levels from production and QC colleagues

  • Perform injury/hazard identification/near miss intake and documentation. Including Lead root cause analysis on any incidents

  • Perform annual compliance training and other initiatives to include lock out/tag out, hearing protection, fire drills, etc.

  • Maintain Safety Database and records; ensure action items are being completed in a timely manner

  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal safety requirements and record keeping standards.

  • Create, review, and approve work instruction JSA (job safety analysis) and perform project risk assessments

  • Establish Train the Trainer program for safety topics including: first aid, forklift driving, fire extinguisher usage, etc.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and crouching. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools and controls. Lifting and moving of objects weighing at least 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be evaluated and considered to enable an individual to perform the essential job functions.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Job will generally be performed in an office environment with significant time spend on the factory floor. When on the plant floor, it is representative of a large, busy manufacturing operation. Noisy, active, objects on the floor, constant movement and traffic flow of motorized equipment. Hair net, beard net, assigned work uniform, protective eye wear, ear protection and gloves are among the GMP required apparel that must be worn, if indicated, on the plant floor. Instructions shall be available setting out how all tasks critical to meeting customer specifications, the maintenance of food safety, quality and process efficiency is to be performed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor's degree in Environment, Health & Safety or related field.

  • 7-10 years of experience in Safety, Security and Environmental Management in a manufacturing environment. Experience in Food & Beverage Manufacturing Facility is preferred.

  • EHS Certification as BEAC, CSP, ASP, RSO, CIH, etc.

  • Certification or considered as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) in the field of safety and health.

  • AED/ CPR/ Adult First Aid trained and certified coupled with medical experience.

  • Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) preferred.

  • Certifications in EHS topics such as LOTO, Forklift, Confined Space,

  • Industrial Hygiene experience as it relates to airborne hazards; dust, chemicals, mold, bacteria, etc.

    In depth knowledge of OSHA General Industry and environmental standards as they apply within the facility.

  • Fire Safety and suppression certification or experience.

  • Knowledge and experience in applied Ergonomic principles and applications.

  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management techniques in identification of key facility improvement opportunities.

  • Ability to understand and apply Security principles in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high intensity environment.

  • Ability to influence peers.

  • Strong planning and follow up skills.

  • Communication skills and ability to speak in front of groups.

  • Must be open to working across all shifts.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and with a sense of urgency.
