Veeco Instruments Inc Electrical Engineer 2 in Somerset, New Jersey

Duties: The Electrical Engineer 2 (Position reports to Veeco Instruments, Inc. in Somerset, New Jersey. Must live in a commutable distance to Veeco's New Jersey office.) will Contribute to the development of Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) equipment focusing on electrical and control system and subassembly solutions that fit within an overall product architecture. Responsible for all design aspects of electrical and electronic engineering and manufacturing of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, subassemblies, and components. Work directly within a cross-functional team to understand and develop system electrical and electronic requirements, communicate status, and identify and resolve issues related to a variety of system electrical problems. Specify and select components for the design of electronic control of robotics, motion control, mixed signal Printed Circuit Board (PCB), firmware, diagnostic and test software, lest fixture design and troubleshooting, and electronic modules design. Specify or modify electrical or electronic engineering assemblies, layouts or schematics, and detailed drawings or specifications. Assess and select suppliers for components generating or using DC or AC energy, including robots, motion control electronics, and power supplies, vision sensor, and control. Ensure suppliers' manufacturing processes and their compliance with standard design and safety codes. Ensure tests are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner. Develop and audit quality control systems, conduct supplier process audits, and drive closures of improvement actions. Define requirements and create specifications for computer-based control systems for electro-mechanical assemblies, common communication protocols, and the synchronization of signal details. Develop digital and analog signal design and control, cable harness layout, and hardware safety interlock design. Evaluate the reliability of materials, properties, and techniques used in production. Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users and provide design and specification development support to Consultants, Integrators, and Channel Partners. Perform technical and product training for the Sales team, Channel Partners, and Engineers within customer accounts. Perform start-up, integration, and training services. Initiate engineering changes and new product releases that impact the product line. Prepare documentation for releases, such as schematic diagrams, test procedures, theory of operation, purchased part lists, instruction manuals, and related information. Coordinate activities between suppliers and development groups to develop and meet products' technical requirements, cost, quality, reliability, and delivery. Review engineering documentation and define, coordinate, perform, and generate engineering test reports. Assist with obtaining SEMI compliance on all Veeco systems by evaluating machine safety based on ISO13849-1 standards and generating compliance reportsRequires: Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus two (2) years of experience in Experience as an Electrical Engineer (or closely related occupation) performing electrical and control system solutions. Specific skills/other requirements - Experience must include (quantitative experience requirements not applicable to this section): Knowledgeable using MATLAB and MATLAB Simulink; Understanding of SISTEMA software utility and how to correctly categorize safety devices; Beckhoff PLC programming; Ability to calculate key parameters and characteristics of organic/inorganic chemical precursors for MOCVD applications; and Use of AutoCAD to create electrical schematics, cable drawings and cable routing paths.
