POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Procurement Category Manager Warehouse 3PL is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire indirect procurement function within the category. They own, develop, and execute procurement strategies to ensure cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with business policies and goals. This includes managing the procurement process, sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, and monitoring supplier performance.
The Senior Indirect Procurement Manager ensures collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to identify business needs, establish procurement priorities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. They also oversee the management of the budget for the assigned category, track procurement spend and identify cost-saving opportunities. Key responsibilities include evaluating and monitoring suppliers' capabilities, negotiating favorable terms, and maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers. The Senior Indirect Procurement Manager must have an exceptional understanding of the business to mitigate risks, evaluate opportunities, involve multi-functional groups when needed, and support decision-making. This role is at manager level, which brings the responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the work of direct reports. This includes setting goals, making decisions, allocating resources, and ensuring objectives are met. It also includes planning, organizing, and controlling activities, providing guidance and support to employees, and serving as a liaison between their team and upper management. Managers foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and resolve conflicts.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leading, Developing and implementing procurement strategies to identify and select suppliers that meet the organization's needs in terms of quality, cost, and delivery. This involves conducting market research, evaluating supplier capabilities, and negotiating contracts
Leading direct reports to effectively manage relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services, resolve any issues or disputes, and maintain a strong supplier base. This includes monitoring supplier performance, conducting supplier audits, and implementing improvement plans when necessary
The senior procurement manager should identify opportunities to reduce costs through negotiations with suppliers, exploring alternative sourcing options, and implementing cost-saving initiatives. This involves developing a budget, analyzing pricing trends, negotiating favorable terms and conditions, and implementing cost reduction initiatives
Manage contracts with suppliers to ensure compliance with agreed-upon terms and conditions, including pricing and cost-saving initiatives. Monitor contract performance and address any cost-related issues or disputes
The senior procurement manager should assess and mitigate risks related to cost management, such as price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and changes in market conditions. They should develop contingency plans to minimize the impact of these risks on cost management
Collaborating with internal stakeholders, such as finance, operations, and legal departments, to understand their procurement needs and align procurement strategies with overall business objectives. This includes participating in cross-functional teams and providing procurement expertise and guidance
Continuously improving procurement processes and systems to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity. This involves analyzing current processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing best practices and automation tools
Promoting supplier diversity and sustainability initiatives by identifying and engaging with diverse suppliers and implementing sustainable procurement practices
Analyzing procurement data, such as spend analysis, supplier performance metrics, and market trends, to identify opportunities for improvement and provide regular reports to management
Ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as relevant laws and regulations, such as ethical sourcing practices, anti-corruption laws, and data privacy regulations
Hiring and onboarding new employees: ensure the new employee gets the necessary training and agenda to integrate into the team
Responsible for setting performance expectations, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations. They should regularly communicate with employees about their performance, identify areas for improvement, and recognize and reward achievements
Identifying and supporting the development needs of their employees. This may involve creating individual development plans, providing training opportunities, mentoring, and coaching to help employees enhance their skills and reach their career goals
Work with their team members to set clear and achievable goals that align with the overall organizational objectives. They should ensure that goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), and provide guidance and support to help employees achieve them
Play a crucial role in creating a positive and engaging work environment. They should foster a sense of belonging, promote teamwork and collaboration, and recognize and appreciate the contributions of their team members. This helps to boost morale, motivation, and productivity
Identify and develop potential successors within their team or department. They should assess employee skills and potential, provide growth opportunities, and prepare employees for future leadership roles
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Organizational Development or a related field
MBA Degree is not required, but preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
SAP, Ariba, Power BI experience preferred
Minimum 10 years of purchasing experience or demonstrated experience in a related operational field such as Manufacturing, Logistics, or Technical
Minimum 3 years of people leader experience
Experience managing day-to-performance and career growth for multiple direct reports is preferred
In-depth knowledge of and experience with global procurement and sourcing processes, legal contract negotiations, and contract management systems
SKILLS:
Interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships with and influence a dynamic and diverse set of stakeholders, including the ability to listen and understand differing perspectives
Strategic mindset with quantitative, problem-solving, project management, and negotiation skills and a strong desire for progress and continuous improvement
Proven ability to analyze and present findings in a clear and cohesive manner
Adept at managing change and working through ambiguity to identify and drive to a solution, both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise across boundaries and boarders and influence with integrity
The ability to identify and mitigate risks related to procurement, such as supply chain disruptions, price fluctuations, and supplier performance issues, is important. This includes developing contingency plans, monitoring risk indicators, and implementing risk mitigation strategies
Lead a team of procurement professionals. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop team members, are necessary for building a high-performing procurement team
