Sensata Technologies, Inc. Field Application Engineer - Industrial EMEA in Sofia, Bulgaria

Sensata has substantial growth plans in Industrial market. To support these plans, we are looking for a Field Application Engineer who can support and develop business through building- and maintaining relationship, understanding customers’ applications and requirements, guiding our customers to select the most suitable solutions .

The products scope will mainly be thermal & electrical protectors and relays for industrial markets such as small appliances, white goods, professional food & beverage equipment or industrial automation equipment.

The Field Application Engineer plays an important role in business processes like :

  • Support customers and commercial team in selecting the right solutions for the customers’ applications.

  • Identify and justify projects for new product opportunities and/or product changes to realize customer solutions and growth of our business.

The Field Application Engineer will work from our European office in Sofia and will report to the European Field Application Engineering Team Leader.

General Responsibilities

  • Utilizes advanced knowledge of engineering principles & practices in the design, development, analysis and release of products throughout the product life cycle

  • Present in regular meetings with customers to provide an emphasis on technical problem solving. Supports existing customers on new product development projects under development

  • Communicate business and technical information between the customer and Sensata

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth technical understanding of Sensata’s products and competitor product offerings

  • Leads design review sessions, both customer and internal, as required; this includes conducting drawing and specification reviews with customers

  • Leads failure analysis examinations and prepare failure analysis reports of findings

  • Ensure projects meet customer requirements and quality standards

  • Perform engineering analyses. Review product specifications and utilize computer aided engineering applications to apply conditions, replicate performance, and evaluate the manufacturability of products

  • Help develop and refine 'standard' product configurations that capitalize on the company's strengths and products. Provide onsite technical assistance to the sales team at industry trade shows and customer demonstrations

  • Negotiate technical specifications

  • Respond to requests for proposals and assist in the preparation of quotations for standard and custom products

  • Establish and maintain customer engineering relations

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Position Responsibilities:

  • In the role of Field Application Engineer, you will be the technical peer of the Sales Account Managers, focused on Sensata’s key customers in your areas.

  • You will own the relationship with your customers’ engineering organizations and be the technical liaison between these and Sensata Engineering teams.

  • The Field Application Engineer has 3 main missions :

  • Maintain and expand customers’ relationship.

  • Identify the main engineering counterparts at your customers and maintain regular & good contact with these.

  • Organize technical dialogue with Sensors teams, systems engineering, architecture or innovations/technology roadmap team(s) at your customers.

  • Open new doors, build intimacy and trust.

  • Fill the pipeline of new business opportunities.

  • Inquire, investigate, propose systems/products and optimizations.

  • Filter customers’ inputs into Sensata dimensions.

  • Build value propositions.

  • Define areas for technical improvements.

  • Review technical requirements and help in selecting relevant technologies.

  • Understand customers’ context in terms of designs and processes, propose technical approach to meet customers’ true needs, and distinguish from competition.

  • Provide dedicated and focused support to key customers at technical levels.

  • Analyze and evaluate technical documentation like drawings and customer specifications.

  • Understand full system/application needs of our key accounts.

  • With a pro-active communication strategy and tactic, understand the segment market trends, the customer needs and the competitive landscape. Work closely with the customers, collect information to define and support the growth strategy.

  • Support building customers’ value propositions in collaboration with the internal stakeholders.

  • Train colleagues and customers on fields of products and applications expertise.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering (mechanical/electrical), preferably complemented with commercial experience or educational background.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the Industrial market.

  • Good communication skills in English and German, verbally and in writing.

  • Focus on contributing to the customer requirements and drive to solve problems rather than report them.

  • At the same time provide world-class support to the engineering peers at the customers and bond strong relationship.

  • Willing to travel mainly within Europe, occasionally overseas.
