Salary: £24,045.00

Location: Sandhole Veterinary Centre, Kent

Job Type: 12 Month Fixed-Term contract

Hours: 40 hours per week. Mixture of early, middle and late shifts. No OOH’s. 1:4 Saturdays with time off in lieu.

We are looking for a new Patient Care Assistant to join the fantastic team at Sandhole Veterinary Centre to cover Maternity Leave.

The role of a Patient Care Assistant is to support the nursing and wider practice team in achieving the highest standards of care. Working enthusiastically within the team you will help maintain a happy, efficient, and effective working environment. And most importantly make sure our patients have the highest level of care and cuddles!

As part of the nursing team, you will assist in maintaining our high standard of cleanliness. You will be responsible for preparing the operating theatre for surgery, cleaning and maintaining our instruments, assisting our clinical team with patients, ensuring our patients are exercised and fed regularly, performing lab tests and helping the overall smooth running of the practice.

You will be encouraged to complete our in house PCA (Patient Care Assistant) course with support from one of our nurses as your mentor.

Duties will also include:

  • Assisting with patient handling and restraint. Ensuring that all handling and restraint is carried out in a ‘patient friendly’ approach to ensure no unnecessary stress or discomfort to the patient.

  • Prepare and maintain patient accommodation considering the condition and welfare of the patient, environmental enrichment and additional supporting aids as necessary.

  • Cleaning and disinfection of patient accommodation to include ward and isolation accommodation.

  • Assist with reception and client care to include answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries, booking procedures and taking payments.

  • Assist the Veterinary Surgeons, Registered and Student Veterinary Nurses, Reception staff and any other team member who requires support, where and when required.

  • Work and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients. Demonstrate the ability to be reliable, adaptable, understanding, and empathetic.
