Indian Health Service Environmental Health Specialist in Sioux City, Iowa
Summary This position is located with the Great Plains Area, Indian Health Service, OEHE - Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS), Sioux City District Office. The purpose of this position is to provide overall management, supervision and leadership for the Environmental Health Program within the Sioux City District. The incumbent will report to the DEHS Director or designee. Responsibilities Provide leadership and supervision that can assess needs, plan and implement a comprehensive environmental health program. Serve as an injury prevention specialist providing training on various injury prevention topics. Review and compile data reports. Investigate and assess public buildings and facilities for communicable diseases and/or environmental health reasons. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS BASIC REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide leadership and supervision that can assess needs, plan and implement a comprehensive environmental health program; Serve as an injury prevention specialist providing training on various injury prevention topics; Review and compile data reports; Conduct, plan, review and rate project proposals and grant application packages; Evaluating field programs using the ten essentials of environmental health; Investigate and assess public buildings and facilities for communicable diseases and/or environmental health reasons. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR Per IHM Part 3 Chapter 11, Area positions at the GS-12 require professional registration as an Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or registered Sanitarian (RS). Incumbent must possess professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of Environmental Health required to provide: General environmental health and safety technical assistance, conduct epidemiological investigations, complete plan reviews, conduct health and safety inspections, and address environmental health issues during emergency events (disasters), as evidenced by Professional Registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS) through the National Environmental Health Association or any U.S. State or Territory meeting the NEHA reciprocity requirements.
