Finance and Accounting
How will you make an impact in this role?
This position is responsible for American Express legal entities’ financial reporting (US GAAP, International Financial Reporting Standards), local ledger governance and local regulatory reporting.
The candidate must have a good understanding of the US GAAP and the International Financial Reporting Standards and be able to prepare a full set of financial statements independently, as well as working closely with management from different business units to advise on the appropriate accounting treatment for various business initiatives.
Principle Activities are:
- Review and monitor legal entity financial performance (30%)
Ø Perform variance analysis of profit and loss and balance sheet,
Ø Prepare and present legal entity reporting to senior management
Ø Work closely with finance colleagues in centralised hub to identify, research and resolve unusual items, in a timely manner
Ø Review intercompany charge-in and charge-out to the legal entity
Ø Review the Oracle sub-ledger accounts
- Support business partners (20%)
Ø Determine accounting treatment and implementation of complex business initiatives across different business units
Ø Engage colleagues from Segment Controllership and Accounting Advisory in accounting discussions
Ø Support ad-hoc business queries
- Assist in statutory and tax reporting matters (20%)
Ø Key point-of-contact for external stakeholders, such as external auditors and corporate secretary
Ø Prepare audit and tax schedules as appropriate
- Participate in monthly financial close process including (10%):
Ø Process manual journal entries for Controllership owned processes in the Oracle Sub-Ledger system
Ø Preparation of manual sub-ledger supports for Controllership owned accounts
- Support regulatory reporting matters (10%)
Ø Prepare, validate and submit regulatory reports
Ø Work closely with colleagues from centralised hub to ensure the robustness of the regulatory reporting system and process
- Participation in ad-hoc finance initiatives (10%)
Ø Work closely with finance colleagues on regional initiatives across different disciplines: Data Analytics, Process Automation, Talent Development, Industry Trends & External Insights
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate should be a self-motivator and is flexible to work on changing demands and requirements. This role requires the candidate to work closely with various stakeholders in a matrix organization and the candidate should be comfortable to interact and work with leaders across various business units. The candidate should be or is in the process of embarking on a professional qualification with a recognized accounting body. Any other equivalent professional qualification will be considered as well.
Ø Degree holder in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
Ø 3-5 years’ experience; ideally with external audit experience in Big 4
Ø Understanding of US GAAP, International Financial Reporting Standards and legal entity governance
Ø Advance knowledge of Excel (VBA) preferred
Ø Knowledge of Oracle ERP system preferred
Ø Data management experience preferred (SQL, Power BI, Tableau)
Ø Strong analytical and reasoning skills in drawing insights from financial data
Ø Self-motivated and committed individual who can work independently with minimal supervision
Ø Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ø Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Ø Confident team player who can work a range of team members and management across different functions and cultural diversity
