Unilever Ice Cream Food Safety Specialist in Simcoe, Ontario

Background & Purpose of the Job
The Food Safety Specialist role is part of the Site Quality Team. The main purpose of the role is to drive the highest quality standards through the implementation of Factory specification, standards, and Food Safety Management System (FSMS) for food safety, quality assurance and controls in alignment with applicable regulatory requirements. This key Quality role ensures consistent implementation of systems to maintain compliance with local regulatory requirements and drives program improvement activities to ensure consumer safety & overall product quality and address consumer / customer issues. This person will lead the Food Safety & Food Defense teams; implement updates to the Food Safety / Food Defense & HACCP plans; support internal and external auditing; and carry out other related compliance activities. This role will report into the site Quality Manager.

What You’ll Do
Lead site’s Food Safety and Food Defense teams
Responsible for implementation of and compliance to Food Safety and Food Defense & HACCP plans
Help lead the identification, evaluation and resolution of issues impacting product quality and food safety including the completion of routine site inspections
Manage and coordinate Internal Auditing system
Partner and support with Sanitation teams on reporting and CAPA’s in the Environmental Monitoring program and results
Own documentation management including company quality policies and procedures updates and reviews
Update content and report compliance to annual and routine training to employees on quality topics such as methods to comply with GMP’s, Allergen Control and Statistical Process Control procedures
Manage and follow up on corrective actions from both Internal and External Audits, plant inspections and deviations to verification activities
Support validation and verification processes for sanitation and allergens across all production lines
Provide continuity of food safety programs through the change management processes (i.e. new product innovations, capital improvements)
Support and execute food safety training and culture programs
Support the Food Safety Management System improvement process for the most relevant topics including digital platforms
Provides Food Safety updates to key stake holders
Provides technical expertise (SME) to support risk identification and mitigation strategies with site key process owners
Follow all company policies and procedures such as safety requirements
What You’ll Need To Succeed
Bachelor’s Degree or Post Secondary Diploma in Science, Microbiology, Chemistry and/ or related field
Experience in a Quality Role (1 year minimum)
Minimum two years’ experience in a dairy or food environment or equivalent regulatory-facing experience
Applied knowledge of GMP, HACCP level 1,2, Allergen Management, Food Safety, FSSC 22000, FDA 21 CFR 210, etc
HACCP, FSPCA and Internal Auditing certification
Proven effective in collaboration and communication
Must be able to effectively manage conflict while creating an inclusive work environment.
Must demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated, quick learner, inquisitive and process orientated.
Strong ability to prioritize activities, excellent time management and organizational skills.
Basic proficiency in MS tools (Excel, Power BI, PPT) SAP knowledge preferred
