Description:
Position Title: Registrar, Admitting/ED Department: SBS - Patient Access Purpose: Responsible for coordinating all patient registration activities including greeting patients/families, processing patient registration in an efficient and courteous manner, obtaining accurate patient demographics and insurance information, pre-registering patients, contacting precertification agencies when appropriate, obtaining all necessary consents and serving as the initial point of contact for patients coming into Genesis Health System. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: registering patients who present to the ED for ED services, registering patients who present to the hospital for ancillary testing outpatient procedures or hospital admission, verifying insurance benefits, collecting appropriate deposits and co-payments for services and making referrals to the Insurance Verification team as needed, providing medics and clinical staff any necessary admitting documentation for the ED patients and discussing payment arrangements with patients when appropriate. These task must be completed in compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, CMS and JCHAO guidelines and regulation. The Admitting/ED Registrar is expected to complete these duties while providing exceptional customer service and maintaining complete adherence to the Standards of Behavior of Genesis Health System. There is no formal responsibility for directing others. Materials Responsibility: Very Limited. Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources. Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor. The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated. Key Relationship: Co-workers/Health System Employees, Outside Agencies/Other Health Care Providers, Governing Boards, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Physicians/Medical Office Staff, Students/Interns/Residents/Outside Instructors, Patients, Families, and Significant Others, Vendors/Clients, Third Party Payors/Insurance Companies, Auditors/Review Agencies, Local Governments, News Media, Attorneys POSITION SPECIFICATION Education: High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience Field Of Study: Special Training: Patient registration and/or pre-registration or accounts receivable and insurance verification experience Training Preferred: Medical Terminology; CHAT; computer knowledge and strong computer/keyboarding skills Licensure/Registration: Experience: No experience required. Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people. These may be fellow employees, customers, the public or others outside the organization. Communications are of limited difficulty. Interactions usually involve short, straightforward exchanges of information. The job requires a limited amount of interpersonal skills. Interactions are non-stressful encounters and dealing with uncomplicated problem situations. Working Conditions: There are little or no adverse environmental conditions to consider.
