ASM Global Events Director in Shreveport, Louisiana
Summary
ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Director of Events at the Shreveport Convention Center/Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana. Under the direction of the General Manager, the Director of Events primary responsibilities include the following functions in accordance with ASM policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Hires, trains, and supervises Events department staff.
Supervises and provides support to the Events department and other departments.
Provides on-going support and service to existing clients.
Maintain our brand image and generate positive relations with guests and staff.
Ensure Event Services departmental expenses and contracted labor involved with all events is submitted timely per each event.
Plan, organize and assign assignments for the Events Department
Ensure successful event coordination activities by supervising and training event staff.

Prepare estimated annual department budget along with capital requests.
Negotiate services the facility may be able to provide for events and work closely with GM & Director of Sales & Marketing
Manage, coach and counsel subordinate supervisors who oversee employees in various functions.
Attend weekly director meetings. Conduct weekly production meetings, to discuss upcoming event procedures, problems, and changes. Develop and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all facility departments.
Coordinates and conducts pre-con meetings as needed.
Implement procedures within the department to establish and maintain customer service standards that are designed to ensure a positive and professional image and generate repeat business.
Assist in the preparation and negotiation of service agreements for event services, event staffing, and other agreements as needed. Review contracts for compliance with event and/or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
Identifies and implements Events goals and objectives.
Represents the facility at during all events.
Ensures successful event coordination between Event Coordinator’s and other departments.
Research, reviews, and recommends equipment, materials and supplies required in providing event services and planning.
Coordinates inside or outside service needs with food and beverage, decorator, and other vendors.
Coordinates with marketing all media entry into the building before, during or immediately following events.
Coordinates with all departments as needed to manage events
Maintains the proper image and generates positive public relations with patrons and staff.
Works extended/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Meets with potential clients, advises them on the facility requirements, and negotiates sales of additional services.
Works with internal service partners to provide quality service to customers.
Serves as liaison for all facility clients to ensure the highest level of customer service for all external service providers.
Manages meetings, tradeshows, conventions, and conferences contracted at the facility.
Establishes new standards of customer service by working with departments in the facility.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older
Excellent customer service skills
Possess skills and experience in contract negotiations, budget preparation, labor relations, purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel.
Engage in much decision making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.
Operate a personal computer using Windows, Microsoft Office, event software and ABIMM for payroll.
Operate portable radio and standard office equipment including phone, copier and fax machine.
Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment.
Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
Must be able to pass background/credit check.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise Events Coordinators and Event Staff Team. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
B.S. in Hotel Management or related field or experience equivalent
3-5 years Event Management experience in Convention Center or related venue
1-3 years supervisory experience desired
- Management experience, preferred, or supervisory experience.

Ability to effectively supervise staff and ability to deal effectively with personnel problems; to deal constructively with conflict; to motivate, provide counsel and execute applicable solutions.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects
High aptitude for figures and advanced writing skills
Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic
Excellent negotiation techniques
Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action.
Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
Strong orientation towards hospitality/customer service for entertainment industry.
Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of computers.
Mastery knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoints is required

Ability to adjust work schedule to coincide with events
Ability to travel required
Ability to travel extensively via air and auto required
Ability to work irregular hours and some holidays in addition to normal business hours
