Job Summary:
Clery Report: Research, document, organize and compile Clery relevant statistical data/information throughout the year and compile the federally mandated Clery Report by October 1 of each year. This officer will then ensure that it is properly posted on the university’s website and disseminated as stipulated in the Act once approved by the Chief of Police.
Research (defined): Coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to include local and foreign (other jurisdiction) agencies to obtain Clery relevant data for the report as stipulated in the Act. This would include data on and around university property and event venues where university students frequent proximate to the campus, away on university business/athlete attending a sporting event and any Clery relevant event at the University Campus Apartments.
Document (defined): Ensure the Clery identified events are properly documented and that copies of the reports are obtained and retained for the Clery Report file and available for any potential subsequent audit.
Organize (defined): Collate the data obtained for the report, to include all Violence Against Women and Fire Safety data for the report. This information will have to be derived from various departments within the university as well as outside agencies. This, along with crime statistics, will comprise the majority of the Clery Report which is an on-going information gathering task throughout the year.
Compile (defined): Collect all Clery relevant data and vet what needs to be noted in the report and what does not have to be reported based on the latest Clery mandates by the federal government.
LIBRES (Louisiana Information Based Reporting System): Every state law enforcement entity is mandated to maintain their LIBRES compliance regarding the accurate reporting of crime statistics in their respective jurisdiction. This officer will review reports and those reported locally to ensure that incidents/crimes are not double reported or misreported as they pertain to the university. Accurate crime statistics must be properly coded, per the uniformed crime report (UCR), as they are scrutinized and subject to audit by the Department of Justice. LIBRES compliance will enable the University Policer to continue to utilize the state reporting system.
Crime Analyst Duties & Reports: Receive, review and collate crime reports for statistical purposes. Provide monthly reports to the Chief of Police comparing month to month and year to year changes to track any changing crime trends to project any potential future trends.
